Title: Oh sooooooooo worth the $13...
Post by: makenzie71 on November 06, 2006, 03:14:46 AM
I just picked up a tripple PS2 game-pack from Walmart the other day for $12.99.  The reason I bought it was because it had TT Superbikes (Real Road Racing) in it...plus a DT racing and some arcade plane game, both of which looked spiffy fun, too.

I just popped Superbikes in...this game is straight badass.  The feel of the game is waaayyyyy better than Tourist Trophy.  The driving mechanics are superior.  The crashing is more realistic.  The tracks look better (I mean shaZam!, how did "valcon" out do SCEA there?).  The first person, through the windscreen view is sooo much more realistic.  If the game had more tracks and more bikes I'd say it was a better game.

But as it is, the game's fairly limited on bikes, and it's based on the ISle of Man Circuit.

Now let me say I've always heard that Isle of Man is scarey narrow...it's width is so lacking that most of the lives the track's claimed have been from "passing" attempts.  This game makes it look down right claustrophobic.  On top of that if in real life they don't bother seperating the racers from things like telephone poles and curbs and other random shaZam! like, then I'm baffled as to how more people aren't dead as half the game involves dodging this shaZam!.

Short story the game is just awesome.  I'll post a vid here in a little while so you guys can get an idea.  And like I said it was $13 for three games.  If anyone wants me to grab them a copy let me know.

I have been over there many times and you are 100% correct. Its dangerous as f***, thats why you never see the real big names over there, they wont take the risk. Its not the falling off at 100mph that kills you its the hitting of the stone-wall or phonebox or streetlight afterwards. The organisers wrap padding around the street furniture in the most dangerous areas but its little help and I doubt they will show that on the game.

One of the deaths i can think of there happened when a racer was trying to take a sharp corner and basically drove into a Pub. Killed instantly. It is absolutly insane and so is the open day. During the TT they open the track for everyone to go round (since the road is already shut by police) everyone goes the same way round the circuit using the whole road which isnt much. But if you can imagine thousands of bikers tearing around an unrestricted limit road into tight corners its crazy. You can gurantee no matter how fast you go there is always someone going faster than you.

I LOVE this game...the controls are extremely unforgiving.  That was one of my biggest gripes with TT;  the driving mechanics, with the controls, made the stupidest mistakes a breeze to sail through.  With this game you get sent flipping through the air.  The wrecks are sooooo much spiffier.

Yeah, they do, actually...and not only do they show it, you have to dodge the shaZam!.

After playing TT for an hour I was winning races and new bikes left and right...after a few hours playing time on Superbikes I've won one race, managed to podium another, and have wrecked more times than I can count.
