Option 2: No

I am anticipating that the insurance adjuster will say the Katana 4.5" rear wheel modification adds little to no value to my bike.
Would you prefer the GS500 to have a wider rear wheel than stock?
nah i think they should have a 110 on the back. a 150 would just be stink :D
or not :icon_mrgreen:
nothing will make the bike look like it has a normal width tire...
The only value I see in a wider rear wheel is more rubber choices... to me, this is not a big issue

Ah, and that was my argument. Simply the availible choices for those who do care, and if you don't, you still get the same ones as before if you want.
the problem is most adjusters don't care, nor do they know what they're looking at when you have a fatter shoe on the back, better exhaust ect... The insurance co. i use replaces items with the items that were dmaged if you have documentaion and proof that it was on the vehicle before damage was an issue. Thus keeping people from slapping on a 900 dollar exhaust that they got trashed for 10 bucks after they dropped the bike with the stock system on it. but like I said in my other post... could be a NY thing, maybe?
I'd like to see a 4.0" rear wheel on the GS500; it's the preferred rim width for the 150/70 sport touring and the 150/60 supersport radials. It's also the preferred rim width for most 140/70 and 140/60 tires. Would give these tires a better shape on the GS and EX 500's. Many are running these sizes now on these bikes.
Our 3.5" rim is the preferred width for the 140/80 sport touring radials which have been available in the rather old design D205 Dunlops and the quite good more up to date AV46 Avons which are sadly now being dropped. The new Avon AV55/56 Storm tires are replacing the AV45/46 Azaros and the Storm isn't available in the 140/80 size, still available in the 150/70 size though and Avon has never approved this size radial on a 3.5" rim.
Storms should be available on the US market later this month.

Alpha just put back on all the stock stuff and sell the goodies, here, hell I will buy the racetechs and SS line from you... :)
4.0" as GSJack said. It is/was made for the Bandit 400. Even has the same spoke pattern. Main reason is for better selection of rubber.
No, a wider rear wheel adds nothing to the overall value until you get into the thousands of dollars worth of wheel.
On the whole, you can expect to get back at 5~10% return on all your modifications to the GS...and that's being optamistic.

But I'll be buying the bike back... so that would be useless. :p
Hell, I could buy the bike back, return it back to stock, then part out all the goodies and sell the GS for fairly cheap (still a clean title though) and use the insurance money, GS money, and bling money to buy the DRZ I want.
drz...blah...
Dude, Alpha's got the motorcycle helmet mohawk things! All he needs now is that DRZ! How can you have one of these without a DRZ to match!?
