I'm going to be winterizing and putting away the bike soon. Should I buy the big containter of Stabil (better price) or the small one? Will a bottle of Stabil last for a couple of years, or does it go bad? Ah, this paradox is making my head spin....
Chilly
If you buy the big one...all your neighbors will become your friend. :)
I've had mine for about 6 years....handed down to me from my daddy <-- I'm not kidding either.
sry to thread jack ... but willy what is your avatar? :dunno_white:

shows what you know about fuel.
the best thing to do...
turn off the fuel on the ped chicken.
run fuel out of the carbs till the bike shuts off and will not run any more. just before it dies go to full choke to get the last bit out.
then add stabil to the tank and store away.
cover all holes on the bike exhaust ans intake with rags to keep out bugs and all.
I had some stabil that turned into granules in the bottle after what must have been a few years. Bad batch? Cap left partly open? who knows. ...
I'd go with the small bottle. Besides, I'm cheap and don't use much.

...Octane has nothing to do with the varnishing tendancies of gas.
That makes as much sense as the following conversation:
"How cold is it outside?"
"Streetlamp."
-Turd.
Look at the bottle.
It has a this thing called instructions on it.
Althought I never read those things either.
I think it says that it's good for two years once opened.

Not to rain on your parade, but put the Stabil in the tank and run the engine to get the conditioned fuel throughout the fuel system. Then shut the bike off and drain the float bowls. If you need to know why, I will explain.

+1 this is the only way to go if you plan to "drain" your carbs.
-Turd.
there is no need to run stabill through the carbs. i have drained the gas out of carbs for years (10) and never had a problem with them junking up, but i am not sayin it will hurt it, if nothing else it will prevent oxadation in the carb.
the way i listed is the way i do it, so each there own. i have no parade to get rained on so its all good

Agreed, but I'm not talking about Octane directly, so let me clear this up.
At least around here at Chevrons, 94 comes out the pump w/ stabilizer added already because of the long dwell time in the ground - which should be plenty if you store the bike for only 3-4 months and remember to fill it up to the brim.

Sounds good, I was unaware of that. I take back my previous post.
-Turd.
I just bought the small bottle. According to the packaging, it's good for two years.
