Title: No lights when key is turned on, Battery OK
Post by: newbiker1 on November 09, 2006, 09:18:20 PM
I got a rude shock when I turned my bike on yesterday evening. There were no lights on the display, brake lights were not working and there was no sign of elctrical power. I assumed it was a dead battery but the battery turned out OK. I am not sure what else can keep the brake lights and other lights off.. The bike does not start as well.
I used the bike in the afternoon and it was perfect. But something happend in the evening. There were no obvious broken wires or anything.
Did this happen to anyone else ? Does somebody know whats going on ?

Have you checked the fuse?

Most likely the fuse, it is located on the right side of the bike under the seat not a million miles from the battery, there is also a spare as well.

Cautionary tale, this happened to my 03 whilst under warranty, I pulled the fuse and it was OK, the relay that the fuse sits in had corroded badly. dealer fitted a new one and stuffed it with petroleum gel and its been fine ever since. If you use the spare replace it ASAP.

Now this is a bit weird.
I purchased a 12V battery charger from a motorcycle store and charged my battery to the brim. When I placed the battery back the lights were on but they were really dim and the brake lights were dim too. Now this cant be fuse... I am not sure what is going on..

How do you know the battery is OK?

Yes it was the battery,  when I took the battery to the dealer he checked it and told me its not functional. Lesson learnt... even if the charger shows full charge it does not necessarily mean that that battery is charged completely..  Hopefully once I throw in the new battery my bike would work.
