I saw an ad in our local Craigslist for a guy parting out his GS500. Many of the parts are already gone / sold and I e-mailed him about the cap for the master cylinder. At first he didn't know what I was talking about, so I described the part to him in great detail. His response:

oh,
that would be a total of ten dollars.
this cap is only worth five dollars to me. but for my time, i would have to charge an extra five because recieving only five dollars for one transation is too little.
i'll be home all day today and most of the weekend

My response to him:
Charging for your time and the part? That's funny! Using the same logic, I'll charge the same rate for my time as a buyer. Add in the ferry ticket and bus pass and you would wind up owing me $2 along with the part. (-:
Best of luck parting out that bike! ROTFL!

You should have charged him for your e-mail time...he'd have owed you closer to $5...
+1
I'm billing him for my thread-reading time. My shaZam! is steep too.
