I think police in England should be issued with tazer guns. We don't want to go to the extreme of America having all our police officers armed. However with so much gun and knife crime it is inevitable that soon police are going to need to step up their tools abit to combat the new violence. There has been talk of the police all being armed like in America but such a drastic change would just cause more trouble i think. Lots of police officers would quit their job and i think there would be even more gun crime as criminals then realise they are going to need guns to combat the police. If all our police had tazer guns they wouldn't be lethal but they would be able to disarm knife wielding criminals without getting into hand to hand contact. And it would also give them more of a chance to disarm an armed criminal if they need to before armed police arrive. I also think home owners in England should be allowed tazer guns.

We're not allowed stun guns, tazers, or even to carry firearms down here. I think even pepper spray/mace is illegal to carry.
A 4 "D" cell maglite is handy to carry in the car in case you need some light.
I have a 4D in my truck... For when I need "light." And I usually carry a "hunting and fishing" tool wherever I go (except places that have metal detectors).

I think it's stupid to outlaw tazers, people need protection. I am not completely opposed to firearms, but I do believe that they should be more limited in urban environments.
Wilson, you and I are in very different environments. When you are out in the sticks, and the cops can be 20 minutes away, there is more of a need for a firearm to protect yourself. I think, however that here in NYC, free-reign for guns could be disastrous. I don't think that I would be comfortable with every hoodlum and gangbanger owning a firearm.
Tazers, on the other hand, I am fine with. If it's non-lethal and can disable an potential attacker, I don't see why it should be outlawed- it's when the results are irreversible (i.e. Death) that kind of worries me. BB Guns being outlawed are just plain stupid.

I think that anyone that is "legal" should be able to buy a firearm if they can afford it and know how to use it. Now, granted, "we" grew up with them from 6 years old up. I definitely agree that the lawsuit-happy mentality of this nation is ridiculous. I also think that the use of the term "Civil Rights" is used a bit too broadly. The initial goal of the civil rights movement was to ensure all people had those basic rights we all deserve (i.e. Sitting where we want on a bus, or equal share of public property, etc.)
Just like any other good idea in the history of existence, however, those rotten apples managed to rape all of the dignity out of a great ideal. People should definitely have the same rights to attend the same public schools, sit on the bus, etc. It is ridiculous now that people can sue someone because they think that they were racially stereotyped when they were arrested and convicted for a crime they actually commited. That part of the system is totally fuct.
