I was just thinking and wanted to throw this out there to see if you members are interested.
How about organizing some sort of GS500 competition or raffle for the site?
I havent really come up with any definitive idea, but I think it's something everyone can throw in their $.02 to get some sort of program created.
I was just thinking maybe some sort of "best GS500" contest members could enter their bikes into via pics, and win some sort of cool prize at the end. Something we all could vote on to pick the winner.
Or maybe just some sort of raffle, in which members could purchase "tickets", and the end prize would be some great mod for the GS. A GOOD mod to get everyone involved, like a new exhaust system or something. Probably start small to get it moving and people involved, then the more that get involved, the better the prize!
I'm just toying with the idea now, and wanted to know if the rest of you want help come up with some sort of a gameplan and make it happen. I'm definitly up for all sorts of ideas and opinions. I think something like a monthly raffle w/ a cool prize would be a great way to get everyone involved and help the forum grow.
What do you all think????? :)
I've been trying to set something like this up at work, but the managers don't wanna deal with collecting money from multiple stores, and plus, not everyone will want to participate.
Great idea though. I'm still trying to iron out some of the details of this type of program.
I think it would be pretty easy to organize through a website.
I was thinking of possibly something through ebay & paypal. Like setting up the raffle listing through a (long-running) abay auction, where the tickets are a "buy it now" option and people could purchase as many as they want. Though, I'm not sure how long one can run ebay listings. And I wouldnt want to have to deal with non-members buying raffle tickets....
The purchasing would (possibly) all be done through paypal for security. Of course each ticket purchased would correspond to a member's name here, so the whole thing could be documented on the site & the winner announced to the site.
I actually think it would be pretty easy.
or maybe not even do it through ebay & just set up a general paypal account for the auction??? What do you guys think? Keeping track of the ticket purchases would be easy as long as everyone somehow includes their nickname to THIS site so the winner can be announced, notified, and shipped the item. I DO think it can all be done through this site (and I could avoid ebay fees). That's why I would like to include GSTwins in part of the profits. :) And GSTwins deserves it.
I'd actually rather do it through this site. 8)
On the plus side there will (hopefully) be profit. Part of the proceeds could go to the GSTwins site, and part could go towards the purchase of the next item to be raffled. I'm not in this to make big $$$ for myself. It is a service to the site!
Ideally, I'd like to raffle off some pretty big things like SM-2's, an exhaust system, maybe a set of tires, and some raised clip-ons I've found that should fit the F-models.
Of course the things like the exhaust system are pretty expensive, so to save up for one we could raffle some smaller items like maybe a lunchbox, turn signals, etc, etc.
I considered that some people wont participate. It's an auction. If people want something like SM-2's, I'm sure plenty of tickets will be purchased at something like $10-15 a ticket. What do you have to lose?
I'm just looking for general opinions and suggestions. This will be for all of you members so I'd like to set it up the way you all feel most comftorable participating in. I will do my best to make sure any concernes are addressed.
Let me know what you all think, and especially if you will participete in something like this (if the prize is right). :thumb:
also, what kinds of prizes would get most of you to participate???

A date with a cute girl... gauranteed 2nd and 3rd dates after that.
I added a poll just to sort of guage interest for this idea.
Two votes are allowed. If you've got another idea for a GS500 part to auction please let me know.
I'd really like to start the auction with something like a brand new Suburban Machinery-2 Handlebar, but they're pretty expensive.
If I can get enough responses by people who are seriously interested in participating I will go ahead and make things happen.
Please also let me know of any concernes you might have in participating and I will try to meet them all. I will try my best to come up with a process that everyone can trust, especially picking the winning "ticket". If you have a suggestion in this matter please let me know. :thumb:
I'm thinking something like the SM2 bars will go for around $10-15 per raffle ticket. If I get a decent amount of responses the tickets will be much closer to $10.
As a token of my goodwill I'd like to offer 25% of any profits from the raffle to the GSTwins site. I'll keep no more than 25% for my efforts, and the other 50% will go into an account used only towards purchasing and raffling the next month's item. If those percentages are acceptable to the rest of you, they will not change. If there is only $1.00 of profit from this auction, yes I will only keep $0.25 for myself. I'd really like to get something like this going every month so it will actually benefit a lot of people and the site over time.
The first raffle prize I will be purchasing and raffling out of my own pocket, but hopefully over a few months the paypal raffle account will build up some profit and we can raffle something like a full Jardine exhaust system or another big item that you, the members vote on.
I wont keep this going if people dont seem too interested. I'm not planning on making a profit out of this either. It is a service to the site and I think it'd be a fun way to give back to the site and everybody else. Let me know if I should keep it going, otherwise I wont.
I figure a $10 ticket is definitly worth a set of SM2 bars. You could put them on your GS or turn around and sell them on this site for $100
Another idea for the raffle--a carb re-jet.
Chilly
I should add that the ticket prices on the poll are just a rough estimate. I cant see them getting higher than that. If A lot of members are interested in participating, the ticket price will be less.

I added a jet kit to the poll that will be specific to the winner's bike.... if they actually vary by year.
Just raffling items, not services. 8)
hmmm seems I quoted myself...
Sport Demons?
Motorcycle-Superstore gift certificate?

I'm willing to put my services up to be raffled off, as long as I get a cut of the profits :thumb:
I'll donate a pair of these in black:

hmmm interesting. or like pastrami said, maybe gift certificates to something
thanks for the great ideas!
I actually love the idea of a gift certificate to Msuperstore or another well known motorcycle parts site.
I think it would be even a better idea than raffling off something like SM2s for the first one. It would definitly get a ton of people involved.
It'd be great to get enough for tires, maybe a gift certificate in the $200 -250 range, but I dont think I can pay that much out of my pocket right now. I'm maxed out for the first auction at $150, but even that amount would be great for a gift certificate, maybe at about $10 per ticket. I'll definitly look into it more. Raffling off some big gift certificates might be the better way to go in general.
thanks a lot for the offer bubba zanetti. We'll talk some more once things really get rolling. I'd like to start with something like gift certificates to get the process down, then for some months we can swap in servives such as rejetting an such for those who are willing to do it. Of course you'd get paid well for your work, because the actual parts for something like that are really cheap. :thumb:
Pablo, thanks for the offer as well; that sounds great. We can hopefully put those in along with the first raffle. I'll PM you once I get things rolling.
thanks guys, keep the suggestions/comments/concerns coming.
maybe a decent set of tires ...
Sport Demons in stock sizes are $168 shipped from Motorcycle-Superstore when they are on sale (which they typically always are).

Yeah that is what I had in mind :thumb:
Yea I'm thinking now though a gift certificate that can be put towards ANYTHING on said site would be a better item to raffle off though.
I think it'd get a lot more people invloved. Some people need tires, some need gear, some need something else. A gift certificate would cover all of these.
If you want Sport Demons, you may win the raffle, your $10 will be turned into $150, and then a set of Sport Demons will only cost you around $28+shipping with the $10 raffe ticket included. Sweet deal :thumb:
i guess that works too
yea I'm banging my head for not thinking something as simple as a gift certificate to raffle off
I think that's really the way to go to get people involved. Mainly I want to ensure that I will get back the $100-150 I'll be putting down for the gift certificate. The more people that get involved, the better. That way I can keep it going hopefully each month with any profits that are made and not have to keep dipping into my own wallet each time and worry about getting my own money back.
I'm gonna get things started, probably a bit slowly over the next two weeks or so because I am in the middle of moving. I am really excited about this though; not really about any money I'll get out of it for myself (because it'll probably be minimal), but excited about just the whole idea of making it a monthly thing to give back to everybody and the site.
I'm aiming to be shipping the first winner their gift certificate by Christmas, but we'll see how it goes. You'll all be informed along the way :thumb:
