Title: Heroes
Post by: scratch on November 14, 2006, 07:48:06 PM
Anybody watching the show "Heros"?

Anybody want to know anything about some of the characters?

The younger brother that "could" fly - he's an ability emulator, thus he is able to emulate the ability of whoever he's near.

I just learned this one: "Horned-Rimmed Glasses" guy (or HRG).  That's it; just what he's called.

And, how about his co-worker, the "Nullifier", or "Eraser".  Why wasn't he able to keep 'flyboy' politician from taking off?

And, why the solar eclipse at the beginning?  The closer to the apex of the solar eclipse, the stronger their abilities become.
Now, how often do solar eclipses happen?  A few times during a lifetime?  So these abilities become apparent somewhat suddenly.

What's interesting to me is the presentation of these 'heros', in that they are everyday people and can have, typically "human" iniquities, such as the politician being crooked.

These are my own obversations.

And, now, what about the "tatoos" or cuts?  Are they really from experimentation by HRG?  Or, markings from their abilities (caused by the coming eclipse)?

He has a name, I think Dan Bennett(?), he introduces himself to Isaac the painter, when he is explaining to him why he needs him to paint.

Yeah...  I friggen Love Heroes...

The Glasses guy's little helper can "Convince" people to do things.  ;)

I suspect that the Radiation guy may be the "Bomb" that they're all trying to stop...

And the "Eraser" guy doesn't nulify all powers...  He just has power over the mind... So, that's why he could block out the telepath...

[edit]Sylar?[/edit]  He's eating people's brains to get their powers...   :icon_mrgreen:

The Heroes fan site has a lot of cool info...

BAM!  Sylar (I looked it up).

Yeah... That guy.  He's eating (or otherwise absorbing) their brains to take their powers!   :o  Now imagine if he got Hiro's power!   :o

You know...  When the Glasses guy's little chick helper first showed up, the first thing I thought was PLANT!  I was actually disappointed that I was right.

I'm still wondering where they're gonna take the Hiro plot...  Like... Maybe he jumped years back, found the chick, fell in love, learned perfect English, etc, etc.     The thing he didn't think about was the paradox...  If he told her not to come to work, they'd never meet, and he would have never jumped back to tell her not to go to work. :cookoo:

He should have jumped back 5 minutes, stopped time, and busted Sylar's nugget.

Oh yeah...  And...  Niki (the mom with the crazy personality) is TOTALLY a villain. :icon_mrgreen:  And her kid is the super-smart giant-brain archetype.

Doesn't Niki just have a personality disorder?  It's got me scratching my head, thinking, "this is an ability?"

She's super strong, quick, and agile...  She can rip people in half and toss them around the room...

It just manifests in her other personality...  Kinda like how Isaac can only use his powers when he's high.

She's still a villain!   :icon_mrgreen:

I did like it when she kneed the security guy in the elevator and then placed her heel against the guy's temple and said, "...or I'll put this heel through your head."  That's hot.

I believe she is neither a hero, nor a villan.  This shows the human side of what may be a hero, what these people/heros go through in day-to-day life.  While I don't debate that her 'bad' side does have homicidal tendencies, without regard to life, and while that would definitley mark her as a villan, she's not protrayed as an antagonist.

Good show! What do you guys think about the whole save the cheerleader, save the world thing?

I'd save her!

Save her from her "dad"?

I hope it doesn't go way out the way lost did...at first lost was ok, then it just got so far out there. Almost like they were trying to tap into the x files kinda vibe.
It is a good show.

My wife said that Sylar will find the radiation/'burning' guy and become the bomb himself, and since he's been captured...it might be more likely...since we don't know where they "took" the radiation guy.

I never watch these shows while they happen.  I wait until the season is over and get the DVDs from Netflix and watch them all at once.  For example: I watched 4 hours of 24 last night, went to the gym, and went to bed.  Perfect.

Last night was a 5 hour marathon on SciFi, if you would have not wasted time on 24, you could have been caught up!
How's the Shawk? I was expecting a call Tuesday.

Yeah, the radioactive guy escaped... but now we will never know if Mr. Bennett would use him, he got Sylar and his daughter is alive.  So my theory is still possible.

I feel you pain...  I'd rather watch a show on a DVD, 'cause then I can get my fix right away...

Right now, Mondays are my TV day...  I save Battlestar from Friday, get a Copy of Dexter from Sunday, record Heroes and Studio 60 on the DVR...   Then watch them in that order...  BSG, Dexter, Heroes, Studio 60....

By the time I'm done, It's bedtime.

So...  Now ALL my Monday shows are on a break.

WTF am I gonna do next Monday?!?  :icon_confused: I might have to leave the house or something...    :o

She killed herself so that he would not get her ability...

...but we're not a 100% sure, now, are we...

Did we hear the gunshot?

I can't remember...

...can you imagine if he did get her ability...

And, why did Peter get sick?

He had a vision, but his ability only becomes active if there is someone with an ability near him...

Yes on the gunshot and splattered blood.  If they keep killing off the girls, what reason will I have to watch?

A better question about Peter is why didn't he get better when Claire came to see him?

He wasn't sick; frustrated, nervous and sweaty, yes.

Sylar hasn't gotten to him, yet, otherwise he would've used the burning powers to melt the glass.

Remember, the one girl who could remember things from the restaraunt?  She stated that she had a brain tumor to Hiro.

Now, wouldn't a sudden brain tumor make Peter kinda sick quickly?

Sylar stated that he could see how things work, and he could "see" what gave others their powers.  When he killed his first victim, he said something like, "There's something wrong with you, but I can fix it..."

Since we know that Sylar is somehow able to manipulate his own brain, so that he can have the ability of the victim, is it possible he is giving himself tumors?

...And, that's why Peter got sick?
Title: Re: Heros
Post by: ixolas on December 12, 2006, 06:48:45 PM
I think Peters power is not only to emulate others but also precognition... He had dreams of his brothers first flight, his bosses death, as well as others.  So I believe that his main power is precognition, but he has been so focus on thinking he can only copy others that he hasn't honed his.  Others have practiced theirs but he has only used it sparingly and then, not even trying.
I would have to say that Hiro is my favorite character, and I wonder if that painting is of him in a museum or something.  For example Sylar is there and he "pops" in to be surprised by the dinosaur exhibit.
I think the bomb is an attempt to kill Sylar.  Radiation guy gets informed about Sylar and he somehow gets it in his head that nothing short of going nuclear will stop Sylar.
I don't know where all this is going but after the first show, I've got my round trip ticket in hand and won't miss it for anything, well almost anything but I still tape it.
Title: Re: Heros
Post by: scratch on December 12, 2006, 09:00:12 PM
HmMMMmmm...precognition would be far more valuable than the Painter's painting of the future; the painting is of something far into the future, the details on how to get there are not there.  Same thing could be said of precognition, but for now let's 'suppose' that it allows for a more fluid understanding of the future.

We first thought that Sylar was going to be the bomb, but now we see Peter potentially having the ability.  The bomb being an attempt to kill Sylar, may indeed be that.  Suppose this: Sylar kills the Radiation guy, absorbing his powers, Peter confronts Sylar and emulates Sylar's powers, powers up the radiation to blow up himself and Sylar.

The Painter is killed before the blast, probably before the Radiation guy is killed.  Sylar will be able to paint the future; I'm gonna bet...just one painting.

I don't know, I just don't think that the vision of him using the power is actually what it means.  I believe it is more of a symbolic representation of events to happen than how it will actually happen.  What if it was a planted thought by the Haitian?  I mean he can repress memories why couldn't he implant them also?
One thing I do believe is that Hiro will be the one to kill Sylar as he would not be able to use his vast powers against someone who could stop time and cut off his head (there can be only one! as lightning strikes him).  The explosion is something that I think they are not drawing any links to until the show nears its conclusion.  I mean there are allot of character plots that are scattered and will inevitably be tied together.  So I think we are a ways off from the actual bomb, and even knowing its precursors.  I mean how does Niki, the ghost guy, and their son tie in?  There has to be something.  And what about the mobster guy who seems to be in the shadows of niki's past as well as fly boys?  I bet he is a mutant too; I say mutant because this reminds me of a well written x-men rehash.  Could the mobster be the one that HRG works for???

Man I can't wait till it starts back up.. I'm so impatient.

No but seriously, I didn't see Peter's brother as Claire's father, thats a twist.  Also how Peter can still use the powers of others even when he isn't around them, that is definitely interesting also.  I am still interested to see who Linderman is and how he fits into all this.

He may still be.  Think about what Linderman said to Petrelli (the older one): "We had a group, but some used their powers for personal gain...".

Now, think about this: Is it 'bad' that Peter meets Jessica, and absorbs her power?  Is that a timeline that Hiro should prevent?  I mean, does he blow up New York because he meets Jessica (and can't control her power, so he goes 'bad'?)?

In one class, Software Engineering, we wrote an inventory program.  It was easy, first program and group assignment.  Me and the girl in our group did the majority of it.  I wrote the DB interface and backend using VB and MYSQL and She did the GUI, girl like that so who was I to object, and played with button variables and form switching/data flow between forms.  The unmentioned third party was the type that was destined to fail out, his job was to come to class high as a kite every day.  So we told him to write a small part of the inventory program, admin console.  It would allow persons with correct logins to check current inventory, order and do a few other things.  Not bad when all it really is is a GUI with a couple buttons and some function calls to other things that your partners are going to do.  He comes in 4 days later with this:

Private Sub Login_Click(){

  Put your code to connect to db in here;

End Sub;

The form was one screen with labels on top of two text fields with one button.  one label read "USR Name" the other "Password".  I hated group projects.    We told him to do his shaZam!, he didn't.  We did our own version of his stuff antisipating that he would not come through.  Good thing too.  After the presentation the teacher asked if he could see the two of us without him and he asked if he had come to any of the meetings, we were like yeah, but he is retarded and didn't help.  What he brought was that snippet above.  and that was not even VB, that was some shaZam! a cheeto told him to type while he chased his bong hit with a cold one   .  Man if only i could go back to elementary school, i miss the good old days of dodgeball and loveing gym class......stupid work

I don't believe Sylar's dead - appears he crawled in to the sewer.  Oddly, if you pause on the blood stain, it looks like a man in an animal skin - kind of like a wolf in sheeps clothing.  I'll try to post a screencap tonight.  Also, when it zoomed in on the manhole cover, there was a slug or something sitting there.  Maybe he'll become President afterall.

So does Sylar have some kind of regenerative ability that we don't know about?  How did he expect to become president (like he told his dead mother) when there was going to be a nuclear explosion?  Or does Ted's ability make you immune to nuclear explosions?

And who is the guy who is "worse than the boogeyman" according to Molly Walker?

And, of course, I guess we know Hiro's father's ability now.  That one was bugging me.

Lives forever?   Can train people to be a sword master in only 2 hours?

My sister was PISSED that Syler didn't die...  I was hoping they'd kill him, but I didn't figure they would.  Peter is too much of a sissy to actually do anything worthwhile...  I mean...  Why didn't he just fly himself up there to blow up?  Or...  Why didn't he travel through time and blow up somewhere it doesn't matter?   Or...   At very least, why didn't he tell someone to just knock him out?  He knew that would work, since the invisible guy did it to him........  Stupid Peter.  :icon_confused:

Hmm .. have we seen Peter use more than one power at a time?  Maybe it consumes him so that he cannot do anything else.

As for Hiro's dad - I need to rewatch .. teaching someone how to sword fight in 2 hours doesn't seem like a power.

I'm pretty sure it's the control thing.  Future Peter didn't have the same problem.  It's a matter of learning to control the skill.  Hiro was the same way.

Maybe Hiro stopped time.  Or perhaps he was just competent enough that he could kill Sylar, and daddy was taking it easy on him.

damn, I missed who was behind kensei's mask i will rewatch it just to see.  As for Syler i am pretty sure that he doesn't have any healing abilities, but don't understand how he could life after being impailed by a sword.

Well, Hiro didn't exactly eviscerate him....  He just poked him in the gut.  Easily could have missed every vital organ.......

Now, if Hiro had actual samurai training, Sylar would have been 9 ways dead. :dunno_white:

OR Linderman's not actually dead and he somehow came to heal Sylar. hehehe, that's the best part about the show- you can make crazy theories and there is always a possibility of something being true.

I thought that was a friggin brilliant season finale. Man, I just want to watch that season over and over, I hope it comes out on DVD soon...

yeah he might have missed all the vital organs.  I was wondering about linderman myself.  I mean if he was able to give life maybe he would be able to heal himself.  however if he can on;y do that while alive i am pretty sure hes dead, that giant gaping hole were his brain was makes it hard to believe that he is still alive.
Title: Re: Heroes

Okay, a-holes.  It is time to start gabbin' about Heroes again.

I just finished Chapter one last night.

I didn't notice if it was Hiro's dad behind the Kensai mask.  Can anyone actually confirm this for us?

I loved the show.

I'm assuming that Peter couldn't fly away on his own because he was melting down.  He had assimilated too many powers from Sylar.  You have to assume that.  And is it possible that Peter survived the blast?  Could Nathan have let go of Peter at a high altitude and flown to safety?  We shall see.  And soon!!!

I guess we can rull out all the theories about Kensei.

The lone question provided last night was. . . who is it that is invading Molly's dreams and who killed Hiro's dad?

Any guess as to either?  Or are they new characters?

His discovery in the shipping car in Cork appeared contemporanious with the death of Hiro's father.  At least that is what I had to assume.  But then again, is it dark in Ireland and New York at the same time?  They didn't give me enough to assume that it was Peter.  Also, what motive would Peter have to kill him?  Certainly the killer had at least one of Peter's skills (flight).

(Just watched last night)  I was going to say Peter too until the last scene - unless he was on a really fast ship to cross the Atlantic, can't be him.  But it was someone smaller - looked like a girl to me actually.  Maybe Ivy's back?  Or maybe it was actually Hiro from the future?

Who knows .. love this show.

What I want to know is:

What happened to Claire's toe?  Did it grow into a clone?  Can I have it (she's hot!)?  Did the dog eat it?  And, if so, will the dog have the same abilities as Claire?
Title: Re: Heroes

I was wondering the same thing ... thought not if ingesting the toe would give the dog powers .. that would be interesting.  And opens too many doors .....

I also thought it was cool that Hiro's hero is turning out to be himself.
