Title: How do i remove the speedo cable?
Post by: Jonathan on July 09, 2003, 01:12:49 PM
I can't seem to unscrew it at the speedometer guage, my tools just slip.  DOes it unscrew?  What about at the wheel?

When you take off the front wheel the gauge will be out. Taking out the front wheel its easy, just unscrew that big bolt and the wheel is free. be careful not to push the brakes when the wheel is off.
I already dismounted the front wheel with no problems but havent tried the rear.

Well do not use a tool to take it off...You may break that threaded collar...I know I did on mine. Hand threded and unscrewed.
Cool.
Srinath.

Wait a second, I'm not sure if I understand.

When I take the front wheel off it'll come out at the gauges all by itself?

Nope. The outer cable attachs to the speedo with a knurled nut, which is what I presume you have been trying to undo. The usual problem is that the pliers or whatever squeeze the nut out of round, making it even harder to turn.

The inner cable might pull all the way through from the bottom. It only has a stop on one end - I can't remember which end though.

I don't know of any great secrets, and you can probably break the speed, as Srinath mentioned. Grab the knurled nut near the end, away from the speed. It won't pinch the threads on the speed as much.

Why do you need to undo it?
