I put a k&n on last night and the bike sounded alot better and had more power. The only problem was the bike had a flat spot from 4 - 8k rpm. So, I put the box+uni back on and the bike runs smooth but not as powerful and quiet. The K&n draws alot more air. When I get my carb rebuilt kits I'll set the carbs for the K&n. Does anyone know a the setup for a K&N with jet kit + 40 pilots and V&H full exhaust? Thanks dilly
Start with 150/40/3-3.5 turns of the air screw
That is correct...and its with no kit. Toss airbox put on K&N pod filters and slip on/full pipe and the jets he said. I have had to bloc off 1 hole in the bottom of the slide on all bikes except 1 and that is my 89 with 40K miles and 60psi (just a guess) hot compression...
Cool.
Srinath.
I have had the K&N clamp-on for about a year now, and all I can say is you better make damn sure that the sucker is bolted on TIGHT. Mine pulled off and almost fried my engine. I had my mechanic put in a piece of steel to reinforce the filter in there. The old airbox is in there tight for a reason, so make sure the new one is tight too....
Other than that, the K&N is awesome.
What main jet would you recomend for me? I have the K&N RU2970 single filter with the two clamps. I have a Cobra F1s. I have jetted carbs with 125/40 3.5 turns out.
The problem is it won't idle very well and wants to die till about 2500 RPM's then it runs awsome. I have the idle screw all the way in.
Do I need bigger main jets or pilot jets?
Any sugestions?
Paul
According to the stock way of doing it you should be using 140 mains and 2 #4 washers under the 40 pilots. and 3 turns out. This is the filters and stock/slip-on exhaust might try 140 and 142.5 just to test.
Oh yea, I have one washer under my needles now. Will the bigger main jets effect the idle any?
I did notice that at idle or just above, I get a little black smoke and it smells rich.
So, with the K&N you need to go upto 140's? and two washers?
Paul
Thats the word from the all high tuner of GS seshadri srinath. Also check out Pantablo's website he has jetting info there.
