Is this a new fad or something???
I'm watching Mind of Mencia, and he did a "commercial" about adopting children "made in the USA".
It's pretty much true though... WHY?!?!? The children in the US are just as helpless as the ones in other countries.
I'm too tired to go into a full rant...
Because other countries' babies are way cuter than our white trash reject-o-infants.
And it makes their parents seem heroic, "We RESCUED her from certain death/AIDS/cholera/etc etc" and are better people because of it. Just another ego stroke.
but they could rescue the children in THIS country from starvation, lack of love, etc...
what a bunch of tools.
They don't give a shaZam! about the kids...it's for them.
These are, of course, incredibly broad and sweeping generalizations. I've known quite a few people that have adopted American/local babies.
You're all wrong (in general). You base it on personal gain of some variety...simple fact is that the majoraty of international adoptions are done simply because adopting a kid in the United States is unrealisticly expensive. Some people want a kid...they'll go to who ever is giving them away at the best rates.
The cost of an adoption inside the United States ranges between $2100 and $154,000, with average costs falling between $3000 and $40,000.
The cost of an international adoption ranges between nothing and $44,000 and averages $7,000 to $30,000.
It's all about the money. In my opinion, adopting should be free.

HOLYSHITE!#@!!
It can't be than much... can it?
If there is a huge difference like that, then I take back my statement. DAMN!
Money and ease of acceptance.
In western countries prospective parents are screened to a degree that's unholy. In the developing countries you can basically buy a child. And buy them a better future into the bargain.

Plus, the screening doesn't even come CLOSE to guaranteeing that you won't be put with rabid, alcoholic, sadistic, SICK adoptive parents. Guess how I know this. ;)

it cost money to adopt?!? I didn't know this. I know the places that take care of them need money to do so, but having to pay some of those figures to adopt kid....why?

We have some friends of ours who have been through the wringer with the adoption process. They went through an agency and had to start with social workers interviewing them and visiting their home to determine suitability. Then they visitied the prospective adoptee's country (Korea) to meet with the orphanage and government officials. After paying lots of fees, they finally received a picture and an adoption date. One week before they were scheduled to pick up their new son, they received a call saying he was no longer eligible. The kid's bloodwork came back positive for hepititus B.
So, they had to start all over again. Our friends were not sure that they could emotionally or financially go through the process one more time. At the last minute, another baby became eligable and they adopted him and brought him home this summer.
It is sad that in countries where children are literally starving to death there is so much red tape preventing folks from giving them a home.
