Check out this post about a law in an Arizona town.

I've maintained the position for years that loud pipes are detrimental to all bikers
the town of "Carefree" bans noise :cookoo:
That makes sense. Loud noise irritates people. Being carefree implies peace and quiet.
Thats not to bad. There's an apartment complex here that won't allow motorcycles. I didn't realize this and my friend was about to move in, I was reading over his contract and noticed it. Asked the lady working there and she was serious. No motorcycles allowed.
My friend didn't move in there because thats all he owns .
It's gotta be bad when you can't even rent an apartment because you own a bike.
It is amazing how the combination of a few abused circumstances plus the ignorance of the masses can combine to dictate our lives. If I reply to this thread too much I may get started on my soapbox about the laissez faire attitudes of popular contribution in american society....hmmmm

No one likes loud noise... unless your making it :)
but i think if your "carefree" you shouldn't have a care in the world. essentially you shouldn't care theres noise. they aught to rename the town "quiettown" or town of "shutthefuckuporwellfineyou".

interesting read. Pretty much any motorcyclist with an aftermarket pipe is breaking the law.

It's not like a few bikers with loud pipes have ruined it for all bikers in Carefree. Bikes haven't been outlawed. The law doesn't even seem to apply specifically too bikers, it's just the signage that's aimed at the most common offenders. But the actual law appears to be an 80 decibel noise limit across the board. Quiet bike, you're fine. Loud car, you're screwed.
Also, I seriously doubt the local law enforcement is going to ticket everyone with an aftermarket pipe. This just gives them some authority to deal with the straight-pipe, high-revving types who are disturbing the peace. I don't think this is a bad thing at all, there are a few bikes in my town (mostly cruisers) that are truly obnoxiously loud and they are ridden by chip-on-my-shoulder assholes who take every chance they can to make people jump. Maybe a couple of $750 tickets would put a stop to it.
A friend of mine from highschool got an internship with harley this past summer. Since then he bought a sportster and has put aabout 11k on it. I met him when he rode it back from kansas city for thanksgiving. He had removed the baffles so he was essentially running straight pipes. My other buddy has a 98 trans am with no cat - hes won multiple "sound offs" with his exhaust. The sportster put him to shame, I couldn't believe it.
Still, I'd never want a bike I have to ride with earplugs. Or one that would piss off all my neighbors that much.

You might think that's bad until you think about it like a businessman. Motorcyclists are most likely to die suddenly...which can leave the landlord out cash. On top of that, we (motorcyclists) in general, make people uncomfortable. If your tennenats are uncomfortable, they're likely to leave. Just how it works.
One apartment complex my brother lived at had a ban on all car alarms.
Realisticly, though, they can't enforce such rules.

That makes sense since there loud, but thats the point. you want to draw peoples attemtion, so the criminal runs off with his feet and not your ride!
If they put a ban on cage alarms and your cage gets jacked, does that give you grounds to sue the appartment complex. :dunno_white:
No, I can't see why it would. If the no car alarm policy is spelled out before you sign your lease, you accept the risk of having your car stolen. And in return for the increased risk, you get a quieter apartment complex. Seems like a straightforward exchange to me.
