I've had my (2005) GS500F for a month now, and hit 1000 miles last weekend. Time for some parts. :)
I broke the bar end on my Renthal (aftermarket, right?) handlebars the first time I dropped it. I tried replacing it with the Suzuki part, but of course they don't fit. Anyone want the Suzuki ones? I'll drop 'em in the mail free. I've tried calling Renthal, but they just keep sending me to voicemail and never call me back. Where do I get the right part?
I have a wonderful tank bag (http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=PAR_I6011), but I also have what look to be hardpoint pegs to hang saddle bags off the sides. No amount of googling will find me bags that fit those pegs - I can find tons for the Suzuki cruisers, but haven't had any luck with my model. Are they saddlebag attach points, or something else entirely?
Do they make frame sliders for the GS500F?
And one last thing - I like the naked version better. Is it possible to convert it backwards to a naked bike? The side fairings would seem to just unbolt, but the front fairing looks a lot more complicated. Anyone ever replace the front fairing with one off an E?
Thanks, gang. :)
The Renthal bars are made of aluminum, and they have a much thicker sidewall. Renthal makes a bar end for their bars, They are pictured here: http://www.cyclewareables.com/pages/handlebar_ends/barends.htm
Hope this helps, BigTwin
Re: Barends... I dunno if they'll fit my new clipons or not.. if they will, and you've still got em when I get the clipons, I'll take em
Re: F to E conversion, it's a lot simpler than you would think. Click here for pics: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=29159.0
PM member AlphaFire X5, he's got the E headlight that's a direct swap to your bike for sale.
If you sell your fairings/headlight, you'll actually make a pretty good profit on switching to naked.
If you go to a naked bike, be sure to pick up the SW-Motech case guards (120 USD shipped from twisted throttle), they've saved my bike several times.
Re: Bag mounts, those are just there for hooking bungee cords/nets to, unless the PO installed some mounts I'm unaware of. Pics would help.
You can make the stock ones fit, but you have to buy the Lockhart-Philips ones for the rubber, and longer screws and matching flange nuts at a hardware store, to make basically a Lockhart-Philips set-up using the stock barends, but then you might as well as just use the L-P barends. But, only if the L-P's dampen the vibration enough for you.
Otherwise, I would also be interested in the barends, but NGFL has dibs.
I was just following scratch's link to the tailbag he uses, and I was like, hey, there are my saddle bags:

(Scroll down to SSB-500. Also I think I'm going to pick up that tailbag TP-902, you might want to do that, too.)

Your clip ons are made of thick-ass .120 wall tubing, so I'm pretty sure factory bar-ends wont fit. Just figured I'd warn ya.

If you go naked, I have the entire headlight setup ready to go. :)
I also have some used SW-Motech case guards to go along with it.
