Title: GS500E - Just removed ugly fairing and now bike won't turn over
Post by: TobyR on December 01, 2006, 05:55:42 AM
Just converted my bike back to it's naked form:

I have a few problems:

1) The bike won't turn over when I press the starter button, the lights work and the bike runs when it's bump started, any ideas?
2) I don't know where all the wires go, they're hanging out everywhere behind the headlight with no obvious place that they should be put.
3) How is the front brake cable routed? Mine goes behind the headlight but this doesn't look like a good place for it
4) Are those the right size indicators or are they the smaller ones on the front?

Any shots anyone could provide of the headlight area of their bike, brake cable routing etc would be much appreciated as well as someone coming up with a simple fix for the bike not turning over! I am really bad at electronics.

(Excuse the appearance of the bike, I'm waitin for my order of Muc-Off to come through)

This is a UK spec bike, I don't think it has a clutch switch (I can start it in gear with the clutch out) but it does have a sidestand switch. I don't think this is the problem though because the bike will bumpstart?

Thank you so much for any help you can give me,

T

1.  Check your clutch switch.

I can't tell enough from your picture to help with anything else.

#2 probably has something to do with #1.
There are a few connections (US spec bikes) that are not used but most will connect to only one place.

Here is an 04 wire diagram. I do not have a pre-04 diagram handy.

Most connections should be the same for what you are having to deal with.

Sorted,

One of the wires had come loose inside the headlight, the starter wire (Green/Yellow)

Cheers,
