Post by: Jarrett on December 01, 2006, 09:43:32 PM
Anyone know the spec to tighten the torque rod bolts?  I searched.

I usually tighten any bolt till it strips and then back off a 1/4 turn.  Never had any problems. :thumb:

Thanks! Torque wrench broke.  I set it to 20ft/lbs and started tightening.  kept waiting for the click.  Couldn't tighten it anymore and never got a click.  Slammed it on the floor.  Back to the old method of bump and feel till I get a new on.  Harbor Frieght torque wrenches are garbage.  Most of thier tools are garbage for that matter.  I like to think of them as disposable tools.  Good for one or two uses.

I usually spot-torque bolts like that.  Its a really technical method though, just to warn you...

1.  Place wrench on bolt
2.  Pull wrench until you see spots

Ya but with Harbor Freight tools, it usually is cheaper than renting the "good" tools from sears and places like that.  And then you own them and they work just as good as rentals and you get a couple uses out of them. :thumb:

+1   Hey, I'm not alone. I bought my in/lbs torque wrench to do my clutch [see "Clutch Slipping"] and broke the bolt every time. Bought it brand new from the store for $30. I'll be taking it back this week and staying away from the "Pittsburgh" brand.

I bought this exact one. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=2696
