I just bought my first bike an 89. It was in bad shape but i got it cheap. It ran really good so I jump right on and crashed in the first month"low side". I'm ok the bike needed some work but i rode it home. If I had only known that bad tires, bad chain, to start the list. The first thing I did was get the net and look for advice on the bike. I found you guys. ;)
I read articals about fixing the bike and what parts work well, I came up with.
SV head light conversion,,,,,,works great and looks even better.
Short stalk signals front and rear
New RK chain, JT Sprokets smaller front, stock size rear
Perrelli demon 110/70 & 160/50
NGK Iridium plugs,,,,,,,runs better
Chopped the ugle rear fender,,,,used small round red reflectors in each lower tag hole. looks sporty
coming up after christmas
New paint Blue and white I'll do it my self pray for me.
Front wheel bearings
I've got to do something with that front end,,,,,maybe 750 swap :dunno_white: or Racetec upgrades the price seems be about the same.
I want a belly pan ,,,,,,,,anyone have one?
Ducati windscreen,,,,,wanted
low profile mirrors,,,,,,wanted
I do upolstery so I'm goning to do a customs seat to math my paint scheme,,,this shout look good
I think I'm going to try my luck at polishing also.
I love my bike, but I can't leave anything stock it's not my style. I live in western NC so if anyone is going to the tail of the dragon let me know!
I wouldn't worry so much about the modifications just yet; if you wreck/drop it, which is common with a first bike, it'll just hurt that much more when you ruin all the custom pieces you've put on it. Do yourself a favor: make it rideable, then ride the piss out of it.
Oh, and welcome.
Good Point ! and Thanks
Don't listen to shark
well... sorta
mod it, just don't put high dollar mods that might get destroyed in a little "clash with the asphalt."
Hell if you know how to do upholstery :thumb:
on that list you forgot, replace the bars!?
:thumb:
I almost for got to say
Welcome :thumb:

 i forgot the 89 came with clip ons (i think 89 was the only year?) but i already typed this all out, so you can waste 45 sec of your life and read it...
OH HELL YEA get rid of the stock bars!
I bought a used Suburban Machinery type 2 bar from alpha.
With out a doubt the best mod you can do, more comfortable, more sporty, much better control. I put them on and went for a midnight ride ( :thumb:) and turning from my street to 72nd street i just about laid it down on the left side :o did the bike loose 100lbs :dunno_white:
Your in a much better position which makes it much easier to press on the bars (my opinion). I could go on all day...
Its a close fit but it fits.
Clip on's wont work with the F model. the SM bars are really nice, but expensive.

I don't know, i don't need to purchase aftermarket fairings.
mine GS came with them :)
But tell your niece, good first try :thumb:
it would be great if they would add pics...just my .02 cents
Glad I'm not the one that was looking for pic's.
I like only windscreen and belly pan.
