some people are reporting trojan virus when typing the url directly...
we're working on it right now. thanks for letting us know...yes, there is a trojan on the server side of things. server may be down for a bit as we update the forum
for now, try housecall at trendmicro.com. free software works great to remove trojans...and if you arent already you should be on firefox...
to bypass it either type http://gstwins.com/gsboard/ or http://gstwin.com/ . if you have the forums bookmarked you are probably fine though.
So thats the Sorry SOB that Caused my neighbors Computer to Crash the Other Day.Before it Crashed AVG Caught 46 Different Worms and Trojans. Before I could take care of them it actually F&^%ed Everything so I had to Wipe out the Hard drive and Reformat it.I redownloaded AVG and it found 14 More.Last night I had to Reformat Again and Downloaded AVG Again and it still found one.   If I could get my Hands around that Sorry SOB's Throat.

No, I seriously doubt he got 46 viruses from a link on GSTwins.com. How, you get a virus immediately after wiping a hard drive is beyond me.
ALL: FREE GOOD virus scanning software.

Yup, whatever RobertT sent through was pretty malicious.... it can shut down firewalls, so be sure to check everything out on your 'puters.

Dude did anyone else get the damn PM from RobertT with a NSFW pic? Dude I was checking my PM while my boss was walking by...good thing he didn't see that.
Yeap I got three of them in my PM.
I did Actually Pick them up from typing in www.gstwins.com.Everything was Running an performing Smoothly until I hit Enter.I noticed it was loading the Main Page a Little Slow but Figured it was because I was On Dial up. :icon_confused: :icon_confused: So far I pulled 61 Different Trojans and Worms out.It is running a lot better since the last Recovery.I think I will reformat one more time to make Sure. :icon_confused:
Interesting that I only got the spam PM from SVRider and not from here.
running firefox helps..
but also turn on your XP firewall.. and have an antivirus. and also keep windows patched.
I didnt get hit by it , but it tried to load on mine.
The host is being an ass, and isnt taking off the trojan.. and somehow the user password is not what john gave me.. so i am having to get hold of john. I had got into the server for the last update, this time its not doing so.
do you know when this happened? its quite possible that this
XP firewall, antivirus, patches, etc don't seem to guarantee anything with this one. I'm running exclusively Foxfire at home, but I was scrubbing everything clean all day anyway, so I don't know whether I just didn't see that I was hit, or whether I removed anything he'd send with his msgs. However, another computer in our network (which is locked down tight with about as many firewalls and antivirus/antispyware/anti-anything you can get) was hit successfully. The virus he sent seems to be able to shut down some firewalls/antivirus software.
I am not sure what exactly the trojan/virus does, but it also interferes with my browser going to trendmicro.com and running the housecall.

I went to trendmicro too and the only grayware/spyware/virus stuff picked up was cookies. I clicked the button to clean those and I don't think it worked. If you have the virus/trojan horse, would the housecall scan list it specifically?

Thanks for the update, Pantablo. After doing AVG and S+D scans nothing was found (I didn't click on the links), but I'm going to avail myself of the resources listed by other members, just in case. Any tips on blocking further junk with Thunderbird? Cheers.

+1
never had a problem in the 1.5 yrs i've owned my ibook. i will never own a pc again
Things like this are a very good reason to run Linux. Xandros Premium (http://xandros.com) comes with Crossover Office, and this allows you to run a bunch of Windows apps, so most people (not gamers) should be able to use most, if not all, of their 'must have' Window apps.
Worth checking out if nothing else.

1) If you don't want to use a virus scanner get a Mac. Mac Mini's are like $400 a pop.
For a PC here is a FREE GOOD virus scanning software.

Also everything pandy posted is free :kiss3:
Had a G4 Mac Mini. Loved it. Saving up for the 24" iMac now. Hopefully, Leopard will be out by the time I get it. :)

Too many users take your advice and that won't be true anymore. Because Macs get interesting as targets.

What is needed is diversity. If 99% of people run one operating system, you're screwed no matter what it is.
Bump for those who haven't checked PM's in a while....
Thank god I mainly go on this site on my pocket pc and at work :2guns:
