Title: Got a estimate to have my bike fixed. . .
Post by: blue05twin on December 05, 2006, 02:08:16 PM
Called the place where my bike is at and the estimate came out to $6100.00 on a bike I only paid $4100 for  :o.  I'm guessing the insurance co. is going to total the bike.  Dmg includes forks, frame and what not.  Since the frame is tweaked I'll skip out on buying it back from the insurance co and just let them deal with it.

my dads busa was 19000 fix, but he bought it back from the insurance company and then fixed it himself. Helps when you work for suzuki.  He gets parts for free that are "damaged" as in scratched  body work and the like.

He said he wasn't sure if the frame was tweaked or not, but because of how and where the bike hit the guard rail it probally was damaged.  And the only way to know for sure is if you take the frame to some place here in Atlanta and for $500 they will check to see if it's stright.

For $500 I could get a new frame off of ebay and have $400 leftover. . . . . hmmmm

Yeah.  $500 just for a check is outrageous.

OH HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, Dave, I'm really sorry... that SUCKS.. I was REALLY hoping the frame was straight...

Keep me updated, and like I said, if you want to go there and pull off your mods, I'll go with (I leave for Break on the 15th though)

Also.. out of curiosity.. how much does the insurance company usually charge for buybacks? Cuz.... I know the engine's in good shape... annnnnnnndd... I just happen to have a golf cart laying around... that would hold a GS500 engine really well... and I have some fraternity brothers with some excess cash who might be interested... just a thought..

Rough Dave, sorry to hear it.   Are you going to pocket the money or buy another bike to commute on?

I was thinking of getting a bike to comute on. . something along the lines of a brutale :icon_mrgreen: or a speed triple.  :icon_mrgreen:  Actually I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Nick, no worries I'll find out from the insurance Co. how much they want for it.  Not going to pull my mods off the bike, don't feel like wasting unless I buy the bike back from the insurance Co..

Well.. depending on what they want, if my friends and I end up buying it back, I'll pull all the mods and get 'em to ya...

I have a nice little savage you can have for $1400.
I also have a nice little Maxim for 2200, and a water maxim for 1800 and a virago 1100 for 3k.
I can wrestle the 96GS from the guy that bought it last month but its going to need a bonded title in SC, NC and GA - other states - no idea.
Cool.
