I've seen our own beloved Bob Broussard pull a nice one on his GS. :kiss3:
Search for wheelies, cuz it's been a topic before (unless they all got 'tarded cuz people get all bent out of shape when others start talking about stunting). :cookoo:
ugh.
YouTube... type in GS500, and Wheelie.
and don't ever ask this question again, less you be fed to the sharks.

From General Discussion, or O&E and to its final resting place in TF
I did my first burnout the other day. As far as wheelies go I'll give you some pointers. The GS doesnt really power wheelie as in just hit the throttle and it goes up. What I do is easiest from a rolling start 5 mph or so I rev up to around 7k and drop the clutch and lean back while pulling on the bars slightly.
=====================BEWARE==============CAUTION===============iIts very likely you'll bust your ass, break something, damage your bike. ect ect. You have to be pretty good w/ the clutch. Also during winter, as in the other day, my hand was cold and I tried and it was kinda numb as in not responding quickly. Use yur imagination.
Get better w/ the friction zone (think back to MSF) and you'll be popping mini wheelies in no time.
OR YOU'LL JUST END UP BUSTING YOUR ASS OR SCREWING UP YOUR BIKE!!!!!

So the guy PMed me...
Anyways, my thoughts on this, GON...
Don't even try. No offense, but from what I've read, I don't think you're responsible enough nor mature enough to not do something stupid.
But if that isn't a deterrent, rev it high in 1st gear and drop the clutch. Be careful not to loop it, and if you do, well, I told you so.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLt1rD-B45g
that was the one I was thinking about... mine, that has the instructions, and part number, and where I bought it...

Actually, this is a VERY responsible and generous response! I concur. I'd rather see someone learn their basic skills first and worry about stunting later. The bike is in for a world of hurt if it's looped/dropped, and hopefully it's only the bike that's scraped up.
How about gear, GON. Do you wear it? You sound as though you're quite anxious to speed up your skill learning, so good gear is important.
Being curious and adventurous isn't a bad thing, and it can be a lot of fun to watch someone who had good skills put them to use. BUT...it's good to think about what you're doing and be cautious, too. Ok...I've had my say. ;) :icon_mrgreen:

My reasoning behind that statement, for those curious, is that:
1) Desired mods include: louder exhaust, blue lights, and NOS.
2) Asked whether riding in the 7000k+ range was bad for the bike.
3) Primary concern seems to be looking cool and going fast and being loud.
4) Already asking how to wheelie.
5) Excessive smiley usage.

It *can* mean that someone values "looking cool" over safety, and many of us here highly value safety. We value learning, not endangering others (n00b stunters can be dangerous to others), and safety....did I mention safety? ;) Our sport is a dangerous one, and taking the MSF, wearing safety gear, and not doing things that give bikers a bad name can go a long way in keeping us alive and keeping roadrage against bikers to a minimum.
Some of the indicators of wanting to look cool more than be safe in inexperienced (and possibly young) riders includes asking about sound and speed mods before asking technique questions.
You'll find a lot of honesty here, and you'll learn by asking questions. Keep an open mind, and try not to take any advice given here as a personal attack....and ride safely! ;) :thumb:

I've always said the proper definition of Squid is the following:
"Squids can appear unable to change direction while swimming without first coming to a near complete stop. However, once the squid does stop and change directions, it can very quickly accelerate back to its regular swimming speed. Beginning motorcyclists (especially sport bike riders) commonly have trouble negotiating turns, and must slow down to unnecessarily slow speed, while at the same time have a tendency to ride very fast on the straight sections of the road. "
Thanks for the link.
Also, please everyone read the Hunter S. Thompson article linked at the bottom of the previous link. It is awsome. I read it like 3 times a year.
Well, by Jake's definition, I'm a squid.

iv never seen yours. imma go look right now tho. :thumb:
Yep, your's are better. that pic was taken the day i learned how to do them ... how do u get it so high? and then keep it thier?
Think of it like standing up, you are balanced. You have to get your bike high enough that it will balance. So think if you were to tip your bike up when its sitting there, how high would it need to be till it would balance. Basically till the forks are parrallel with the ground. So if its not balanced then you arent high enough, you will eventually have to put it down because your rpms will keep rising. Get it?
Got it.

I learned how to do a stopy after like 2 weeks.. but i didn't learn intentionally. Some guy literally swerved right in front then mashed his brakes to turn into a convince store; guess he was running low on beer. I had to squeeze the breaks so hard that I came up on the front wheel for a little bit. Freaking scary!! i had to pull over and take a breather and check my pants.
So if you want to learn how to do a stopy just let someone almost kill you, and you'll learn real quick.
I don't know about wheelies though.
