Ok this might be personal but you dont have to respond if you dont want to but, out of curiousity I was wondering how many people finance there bike, and if it is there main mode of transportation?
I dont finance, but it is not my main transportation, but then again I wont be financing my car either, I am currently using my parents car, I pay insurance and everything but its paid off though. But when I do buy my own I wont finance.
I financed my bike. But I don't have a car payment, as my truck is paid off.
It doesn't cost much to finance a bike. No biggie.
Edit: My bike was new old stock so I got it at a discount. Plus I traded in my SV so I really only had to finance a small amount. However, there are sometimes minimum amounts a bank will finance people, and there are also minimum monthly payments they require, no matter how small the loan amount.
I did my bike but I don't have any other things financed but my house both car and truck and other bike I payed cash for.
I finance my first bike in 1987 but it was totalled 3 weeks later by a drunk driver. After it was payed off and a decent insurance settlement, I have payed cash for all of my bikes since. At that time it was my main mode of transportaion but now bikes are just play toys for me.
I paid cash for my bike ($3300). Only because it was so cheap, and i didn't want to deal with the bank. When i upgrade next year ill probably do, half cash and half finance. Helps with you credit and the interest on a few thousand dollars isn't so bad. Don't over extend your self credit, wise :nono: and you wont have any problems.
Its not my main method of transportation, not until the summer that is :thumb:
I paid cash for the GS. My truck is financed through the 1st Bank of Mom and Dad, I got a sweet intrest rate there.
I don't intend to finance any bike, and once my truck is payed off, I don't intend to finance future cages either, if at all possible. (I only intend to buy used also, so that helps)
I have never had any bank loans in my name, only credit cards which I pay in full monthly, and I think my credit score is pretty darn good for someone with only a 5 year (?) credit history.
I paid cash for my bike (not very much cash, mind you). My cage is financed.

I guess a good third question would be... How do you insure your bike? full, liability... not insured :o and rate?
for now im liability, as the weather gets better and i take it out more i might look at going up to full.
Me:
New rider, 04 GS500F, no accidents, 22years old, not married no kids, Liability $362 a year
(coworker 30yr married 4kids 2years experience, BRAND new CBR600 (financed) FULL COVERAGE $240 ) :cookoo: thats tempting me to crash :cookoo:

My rate at Geico was the same, roughly a dollar a day, for basic liability/uninsured, no collision. Then this year they dropped it down to 200 something, so I got 2k of medical put on for $50 a year. Still less than a dollar a day, just no collision insurance. But, nothing's been my fault... yet...
Once you ride out your first year and survive, the rate will go down like $100 I bet.

I only carry liability, even when I had my TLR. Even if I had full coverage, I would not turn in a crash. Heck with a GS, I could fix it less than what full coverage would be.

Same here, I can't remember exactly what my FULL coverage rate was. Something around 1500 a year. haha I paid 3300 for the bike!
When i bitched to my agent about the high price, he told me, buy a cruiser  :flipoff:
funny thing is, im considering a cruiser... (in addition to the GS) but not till next year :)

I didn't turn either... guess where it got me... in a crash...
2000 GS500e was 1600.00 w/ 3400miles. Paid cash. Progressive for me is $85.00 a year. I had to pay it up front mind you... 22, 0 tickets, 0crash, 0yrs exp on a bike. Its just liability.
I've got an ass ton of coverage on the Super Hawk. Just an absolute ass ton of coverage. It didn't cost much.
Better safe than sorry.

Same for me. Ass ton of Coverage for the SV, I wouldn't have it any other way, and it's a lot cheaper than you'd think. I'm financing my SV, and I can b/c my car is paid off and my rent's cheap.
Jake, some guys from KCSB are arranging a Sunday ride, I'l be there. You and Destro should join us.
Hey!
We're going on the Dell's Ride tomorrow. I'll be over at KCSB in a bit to check on it. I am going to watch the Mizzou game at 1, however.
I'll also try to track down the group ride Sunday.
Holy crap! I just realized that the Dell's ride starts at 1:00 tomorrow.
I may just ride in the morning, Tyler.
I need to PM Shayne. Also, Tyler, could you PM the details on the Sunday ride?

I like my GS too much to get rid of her. A C50 was actually top on my list of cruisers
If i wasn't going back to school. i would probably drop the cash on it before the end of winter.....
