Hey guys, Instead of going the progressive springs route for a front upgrade I decided im going to take the plunge. I'm not a master mechanic or anything but Pablos post on Bob's GS GSXR swap was impressive. Would this work and is it a good price? I remember reading about some spedo issues.
complete 03 gsxr 600 front end - 2 triples - clip ons - galfer ss lines - ebc pads - racetech springs - wheel $350
guy also has
complete 04 gsxr 1000 front end - galfer lines - triples - ebc pads - front forks with complete onlins internals and vortex clip ons wave rotors approx 800 kms on all $1800
Am I going overboard? I'm not going to race... yet. but I do intend on keeping my GS for sometime and would love to have it perform at its peak potential even if its a few extra $.
I figure, if I kept it stock
Progressive Springs $45.00
SM2 or Vortex or Woodcraft replacement in the $100-130's
I's like to replace my rusting rotor, wheel and caliper $150+
comes to be about the same price for the 03 Front End.
the gs is a great bike as it is. why would you want to do this? just curious. :thumb:
Ummmm cause unless you are a primordial dwarf the suspension is S.U.C.K.Y!
Yes the GS is a great bike for what its worth. I'd like to keep it around for a while and would like to start playing with it. I planned to swap the stock springs for the Progressives, get at the very least SM2 bars or clip-ons I need a new rotor, caliper - rusted, was going to do the SS lines. Totaled it up, looked at the Front End swaps and they both come to about the same price. At least with the GSXR I get Dual Discs, 6-pots, already has the racetechs, clip-ons, ss lines.
My question is again will the 03 be as easy to swap as the other fronts ends on here. Also will the speedo cable hook up. Not to worried after reading up on the digital speedo kit but still. I'd like an odometer. Thanks!
$350 for a complete gix f/e is a great price. $500-800 is typical.
I have a '99 gix750 USD f/e which I modified the stem to fit the GS. Not difficult but it helps having access to a machine shop. The cable speedo cannot be used. You will have to make something. Look on SVrider.com, there are several write-ups on ways to do this.
A couple of other things to consider....
- Headlight mounting. There are kits available to make this easier. www.aztec8.com make some nice looking ones.
- Steering stop. It will have to be modified. I make mine replaceable so I can change it to use most any fork setup.
Ok another guy just got back to me....
96 – 99 swingarm with the shock and linkage - $60 + $12.00 shipping
96 – 99 rear wheel – with cush drive, and carrier and sprocket - $100 + $20 shipping
91 katana 750 rear swing arm with everything( axle, rotor, caliper, master, hoses, chain guard, etc...) $50 + $15.00 shipping
91 katana rear wheel - $60.00 + $20 shipping
91 katana front end set up – (forks, triples, bars, controls, rotors, calipers, master, hoses, etc....) $50.00 + 35.00 shipping
91 katana front wheel - $50.00 + $20.00 shipping
I have the katana rearsets, but not sure if they would mount up!
Let me know what exactly you are interested in.
Depending on what you buy, I can do better on price, and shipping.
These are basic prices.
So should I get the GSXR 600 front or the Katana front?
Ive seen the write up on the Katana, but the wheel is the same size as the GS. is the GSXR a 120 front?
Sould I get the katana swingarm or just a 4.5 rear?
The GSXR uses a 3.5" front wheel, which is a 120 tire.
Gix or Kat....it is up to you.
The Gix is more adjustable and easier to adjust.
The Gix stock springs should be fine but the Kat may be too soft, depending on your weight and riding.
The Gix will cost more than the Kat. I have several Kat f/e's and just one Gix f/e due to the cost difference.
Personally, if you can afford it get the Gix.
The Kat s/a is not needed. I would just get the 4.5" wheel. The 91 Kat wheel he listed is a 3.5", the same as the GS.
OK cool thats what I was wondering. I'll see about getting the GSXR front!!
OK guys, its yay or nay time. :dunno_white:
One guy is from Canada. Prices are in CDN
- Fork tube assemblies with race tech springs
- Complete triple assembly (upper & lower clamps with stem & bearings) + one extra that I will throw in
- Brake rotors (left and right), calipers, EBC pads and Galfer braided lines
- Axle
- 1 Clip-on
$350.00
Shipping wt is 50lbs so.. $90.00 to Florida
Total US $382.70 to my door.
Means I would need a fender... or im thinking Cafe as it wont rain untill April $20.00-40.00
Wheel w/ rotors. $40.00-$120.00
Or
Guy in Nj
91 katana front end set up – (forks, triples, bars, controls, rotors, calipers, master, hoses, etc....) $50.00 + $35.00 shipping
91 katana front wheel - $50.00 + $20.00 shipping
96 – 99 SRAD swingarm with the shock and linkage - $60 + $12.00 shipping
Total $227.00 to my door
Should I do it? Im leaning to yes on the front end swap and just need a little boot from the GS guys out there that have done the mod on which I should or if at all.
Just checked the bank account. Leaning to the Katana front now. Main purpose of the swap is suspension stiffness, dual shocks, clip-ons brakes... and a little cool dual disc bling. From all the posts i've read, going from 110 front to 120 opens you up to more rubber, GSXR is lighter and has better sus setup but then I have to mod for the spedo find the wheel, clip-on, Canadian shipping, fender ect.
I think I answered my own question here... :icon_rolleyes:
I'll get the Kat front and kat rear Shock.
Does anyone know how Dgyver reused his from wheel on the swap?
QuoteParts re-useable from the GS:
- Front axle spacer
- Nut for front axle
- Speedometer pick-up
- Front wheel
- Right side spacer
- Rotor bolts (5)

How would you use the stock GS500 wheel with dual discs setup from the Katana? Would I need any parts off the Katana wheel other than the Rotors? Would everything line up for the calipers?
I want to be sure I dont need the other guys wheel before I ship the parts out monday.

The GS and 89-97 Kat wheels are the same. The plastic hub cover on the left side of the GS wheel has to be removed and there will the bolt holes. You will need 5 more bolts for the left rotor.
the GSXR set up is not lighter.....it is bigger tubes....therefore more metal.....
the wheel is heavier
the rotors are heavier
the tar is heavier
it will make the bike a tiny bit harder to turn into
and you might not notice it.....
