Title: Quick one....
Post by: Wrongside on December 07, 2006, 10:31:30 PM
Anyone know if an 06 rear fairing fit on a 99? if not what rear plastics can fit, even if needing to be moded?

I kinda dislike the tail of my 99 but love the bike completely over-all...just looking for ideas

no.

You'll have to chop off the subframe from the newbike and put it on your '99.  THEN, you'll have to deal with the seat issue.

I'm not sure if the newer seat will fit after that...  Someone will be along shortly to comment on the seat.

Know of any other tails that would work?

I love that one on that yellow bike from Brazil but I heard that he custom made that...

If you have the drive then any thing will work. Some not easy but you can make any thing work. I put the tail of a R1 on an 82 harley. It just takes the want and drive to do it.  :thumb:

Ok I just read in only ONE post on this whole site about a possible conversion....

If I swap my Tank to a new year I can use the rear plastic and seat from the same year....

Is this true since only 1 person in the other thread said it was...DOn't want to spend the money if it won't work.

Thanks Again

the subframe on your 99 is different than the 01+ subframe and the 01+ bodywork mounts are located in different locations. you'd have to ghetto-rig it to work. theres also other options, depending on the condition of your bike and what you're willing to live with. I've talked to some that have done an R6 tail conversion (see my site) but it involves giving up a few things and its messy. better suited to a ratty bike IMO.
