Title: Does the GS500 have a relay for the horn or a fuse for it?
Post by: espm1000 on December 08, 2006, 01:34:04 PM
My horn isn't working and I can't find anything to adjust the current to it (read it in the forums). I'm new to bikes and I think that I actually need the horn seeing that I ran power directly to teh horn and nothing happened. Suggestions? Thanks.

There is only one fuse on the GS. If direct power to the horn does not work, then it is dead.

Not exactly dead, just yet.   There is an adjustment that can "kill" the horn.  Or maybe revive it.

brb...

Anyway, your horn should have a little screw somewhere on it, that will allow you to adjust the sound. It may just need a tweek.

Hit the horn button or connect the wires to make it blow. (In your case it will not blow until you tweek it) ***Unless it is broken***
While it is blowing, slowly adjust the little screw (off center on the back of the horn) . You will notice a difference in the tone and volume.
Get the most out of it. lock the nut down and try it again. Sometimes the lock nut will pull the screw back enough to change the adjustment.

try it.

Sorry, I guess I forgot to read the part wher you said you can't find the adjustment.

Oh well, I'll check when I get home.

I still don't see the adjustment. I don't have a multimeter or much money to test the switch. I don't think it's the switch though.

Very good time for a replacement horn. Just don't buy original one, unless you are in love with it.

Yea, i don't have that. I have this black thing though that looks like it may be covering a screw. I would get an aftermarket horn, but I don't have much money and not quite sure on how I would go about with the whole relay thing.

I have an important piece of information for the newer GS owners. On my 04 I found the screw, but a black plastic cap was covering it that seemed to be sealed with a silicone like sealant. Used some pliers and it came right off! My horns a blowin again.
