Title: What looks wrong with my bike?
Post by: skoebl on December 08, 2006, 05:18:46 PM
Alright, so I was in an accident in October. Bike ended up on its right side. The front fairing was bashed up; so I kept it off after I put everything back together. Now, the bike rides straight (can take my hands off the bars and it goes in a straight line) but the whole front end seems to be a little twisted. What would cause this?

Here are some pics...

Any ideas? (decided to put this in O & E 'cause it's not a GS  :dunno_white:)

**Edit** The wheel is pointing straight foreward BTW.

I would say the handlebar is ever so slightly bent on the left (right side looks like the factory bend), and the top triple is twisted to the right.

Added a straight line to help emphasize the twistedness

Top triple twisted eh? Is that an easy fix? And could that possibly bend a fork tube?

Unfortuneately, yes.

Quick test: Loosen only the left side of the triple clamps and spin the fork leg (you may have to prop up the front end - perferably), if it doesn't spin freely all 360 degrees, it's bent.  (do same for other leg)

To line up the top triple with the lower, prop up the front, and loosen both of the top tirple's bolts, but only the left bolt on the lower triple.

Alright...then it's off to find some rope to suspend the front end from the rafters

I don't know what I'd do without you Scratch lol. You were so much help when my GS died on me. Oh yeah, turns out the engine was totally beat to hell. Melted parts and whatnot. Previous owner did a number on it and the motorcycle shop charged me for work they didn't do.
