Title: Help need ideas on seat options
Post by: egreer on July 11, 2003, 06:46:00 AM
Hello - Im a newby. Bought an 02 GS few months ago. Other day in an intersection tail end got squirly cuz of a slick spot. I am 5'3" and my feet aren't stable on the ground. Could have saved the scratch if i was stable. Ive decide i need to figure something out with the seat height. Visited Corbin and their seats only go to 2000. Some friends of mine tell me i can shave my stock seat? Any ideas?

if you search throught the archives you should be able to find some threads about lowering the gs.  lots of you vertically challenged riders on this board.  :P   anyway, your basic options are shaving the seat foam, or lower dogbones.  but like i said, you can get the lowdown in old threads.

A search for "dogbones" brought up lots of threads.  Try starting with this one:

It may be obvious but you can lower the number on the pre-load of the rear shock. The seat will be lower when you sit on it but will be more bouncy.
How many miles do you have on your GS? I ask because my rear suspension wore in after about 1000 miles. At first I could not flat foot both feet at the same time but somewhere around 1000 miles I was more than able to.

I shaved the stock seat on my '01 model and replaced the removed material with Memory Foam.  It squishes down more when you sit on it.  It's more comfortable than stock too.
