Title: Winter Mods So Far....
Post by: seaheifer on December 15, 2006, 12:37:27 PM
Alright, this is what I have accomplished so far this winter seeing how I can drive till March. I put on the SM2 bars, installed a 2-way alarm, flush mount turn signals in the front and arrow turn signals in the rear, gsxr mirrors, and repainted exhaust pipes and put on a Hindle can.

I installed a battery harness so I can plug my electric heated gloves in.

Does that count?

I have tomorrow off so I will get better pictures of the mirros and signals.  The can I paid around $60 for the can and then $20 for shipping off of ebay.  Not a bad deal at all since the cans reatail for three times that much.  Does anyone know of some different pegs that would fit.  I was looking for solid metal ones just b/c I liked the looks of them better.  I saw different ones for like the gsxer and cbr and was wondering how those fit if anybody else has done it.  Also is there more vibration since there isnt the rubber shell.  Thanks

Ha, thanks. Although you could have just said that you did cbr pegs  but then again I guess I would have pictures.  Was it just a simple swap or where there modifications.  Also is there any specific year? Thanks again, the pegs lood great  :thumb:

I used ones from an F3, but I bet other years could work. I had to grind down the edges for them to fit into the peg slots. I don't have an angle grinder, but I did have a drill with a grinding wheel. I stuck the drill in a vice and just pressed down on the wheel with the pegs where I needed to grind away. Took quite a while, unfortunately.

Great work! :thumb:

Although, I'm glad I never took the decals from the from fairing off...  it kust looks TOO plain.  It's like those panels were replaced due to an accident or something.  The tail doesn't really go with it now.

But that's my opnion.

I had my bike hit in a parking lot while I was at work so I had them repainted and never felt like paying over $100 to replace the decals.  The rear black strips where cracked and faded so I went ahead and took those off.  I have been debating on if I should just leave the tail the way it is or paint it black.  I was thinking black b/c it will go with the frame and blends a little more with the dark blue but then I was thinking I need to leave it white since there is white on my tank (and I cant take that decal off) Any opinions?

Take the tank decal off, paint the white tail blue to mach the front fairing. then put some solid black decals on it. stripes like stock, or something more creative. That will set yours apart and get rid of the white, which i never thought matched.

The tank decal is under a few layer of clear coats, so getting it off would require practically stripping the tank.

I say you should take the fairings off and paint the tail the same blue as the tank. Mmm. Naked.

You could go this route, the 04 does have the sexyist blue, but polish the rims to match your exhaust.  :thumb:

Another option would be trading someone for an '05 tail, as the blues are the same, but An has been trying that for a long time and it seems no one will bite. I guess I was the only lucky one who got to do that. :)

I traded my white '04 tail for it with a guy in New York. He stuck the white tail on his '05 F and it looked really really good.

well yea. the white tail on the 04 doesn't look like it belongs, it would be muuuuuch nicer on the 05 and the 05 on the 04.
I may just have to add that to the mod list.

I am rather shy and dont like to go arount naked  cheesy I know but could resist! I have tried the tail swap as well but couldnt find anyone.  As for painting it the same blue.  It would cost a pretty penny b/c I would do a horrible job so I would have to pay someone plus the cost of the paint.  That is why I was thinking black b/c you cant really mess up black and if I had to pay someone that is pretty much all I would pay is the labor.  I dont know, I dont know.......

haha back on topic.
I think a black tail would really good, just put some kind of black decal on the blue fairing to tie the front and back together.
I don't know much about painting, it might be worth it to talk with a paint shop. prep the material your self, let them paint it black then do the clear coats yourself. That might make the price dooable.  :dunno_white:

all blue and you might mistake it for an's R6

Really it would just be the clear I would be worried about.  If I did flat black with a rattle can, cant notice too many imperfections I might add to it. Just tossing up the idea but I do really like black

$100 for decals?!?!?!?

Damn!!!  I would have done the same.  I wouldn't care what the bike looked like at that point.   :o
