Title: I got my first time out of the way.
Post by: annguyen1981 on December 24, 2006, 12:45:23 PM
For those of you who had a wager...

I F*CKING #)*&(#())*& FELL TODAY!

I was turning right at the set of lights THREE F*CKING HOUSES away from my house...  The same intersection that the asshat rear-ended me.

I either hit some oil or gravel, but the rear gave in, and I fell on the LEFT side. :dunno_white:

There's minor scratches on the left fairing pieces...  all of them...  but the tail section is more like a scuff, so that's not noticable.  The clutch level looks like it bent fowards.  Then there's the front signal that broke... It still works, but it kinda "hangs" there.

That's all I know of on the bike...

Now to me...  My f*cking left leg is hurting...  Minor, but enough to have to sit or lie down.

I'll post more later.

Yea it sucks, they always say most accidents happen within about 3 miles of your house, on the roads you think you know. Least your not hurt too bad for christmas and it don't sound so bad on the bike.

I guess i could say i told you so but that would be mean and technically you fell on the cheap side (non-exhaust side)

Glad your ok! Get someone to give you some cash for christmas and have that panel repainted and stickered and/or purchase a new one from ebay if its cheaper.

So you're still a virgin?   :o

That sucks but you got away with minor damage, at least your lever didn't break = unrideable.

paint pens you can get from color-rite.com

You can wrap the turnsignal stem with electrical or other type of tape and it'll stick straight out again until you replace it. Unless it's broken at the attachment in which case usually you can retighten it.

Thankz guys (except Kasumi  )

I've been in bed off my feet for most of the time since the fall.  I usually sleep on my side, whether it be left or right, but when I on on my right side, my left leg seems to hurt the most. :dunno_white:  I can't tell if it's my hip or what.

But I just went downstairs about an hour ago to have dinner, and the more I'm ON my feet, the less it hurts.
Strange, huh?

Anyway...  There goes a LOOOOOOOOOONG streak of not going down.  It's been about 16 months and around 12,000 miles (in almost every type of weather).

I am now officially in the second category of bikers.

Is that technically a LOW-SIDE?

I mean...  I was trying to turn RIGHT, but I fell on my LEFT.  I'm still confused about this...

I F*CKING #)*&(#())*& FELL TODAY!

If it makes you feel any better, I dumped my SV like three days after I got, it a couple months ago.  I crunched my front fairing and scuffed my my left pipe a little bit.  I came into a corner too hot, straightened up the bike and ran off onto the shoulder, and lost the rear in a muddy spot at about 5 mph, and the bike fell over and crunched the fairing.  I zipped-tied the fairing back to the frame, and rode home.

My deductible is $500 and fixing the bike only cost me about $300, so I didn't ever report the low speed tip over (I don't like to call it a lowside).  I was pissed, but I'm over it now.   :thumb:

I'm looking through pics of my SV, and I'm totally gonna put 'em on my signature like your R6 pics... I may be copying you, but it looks good, be flattered.

Thankz man.  I think the setup is a little...  amateur...  if that's the right word...  I usually can think of better stuff.  And the strange part is that I don't have ANY photoshop skillz.

UPDATE:
I found out something VERY important...  I can't go up and down stairs without my leg hurting the most...

I mean...  I was trying to turn RIGHT, but I fell on my LEFT.  I'm still confused about this...
technically it sounds like a high-side. Your rear gave out, and must have caught to throw you over the other side. Good thing it was slow-highsides are notorious for breaking collarbones (when at higher speeds).
Title: Re: I got my first time out of the way.
Post by: ixolas on December 24, 2006, 11:59:53 PM
I am pretty new into riding but I've found out low-side falls are the ones where the bike's leaning side hits the ground: turning right, bike leans right, then you fall on right side = low side.  High side is when you fall on the opposite side of the direction: turning right, leaning right, bike slips then catches and tosses you over and the bike (and you) fall on the left side = high side.  Because I was confused about it too.

Post by: annguyen1981 on December 25, 2006, 12:07:59 AM
I know what a lowside and a high side are, BUT the strange part was that the bike was still facing the direction I was going...

Basically, after the drop happened, I looked that the bike, and it looked lke I just didn't put the side stand down before mismounting...
Title: Re: I got my first time out of the way.
Post by: pantablo on December 25, 2006, 03:50:47 PM
well the bike isnt going to turn around in a high side...it should be facing the same direction. its just flopping left-right, not front-back...

Post by: indywar360 on December 25, 2006, 04:46:27 PM
if he was turning right and fell to the left and hurt his left leg thats a highside. I am a noob but I would bet $500 on this.  :icon_rolleyes:
Title: Re: I got my first time out of the way.
Post by: annguyen1981 on December 25, 2006, 05:14:32 PM
I looked again at the spot where I fell, and at that spot, I shouldn't have started turning yet, so I think the rear just gave in and I low-sided...  It was a good 10-15 feet away from the corner.  It's basically a 90 degree turn at a stop light...  not a slow speed curve or anything.

My leg feels a little better now, but because it was hurting more yesterday, and the way I had to sleep last night, my right shoulder is aching.

Figures, huh?

I have put away both bikes....  until the springtime anyway.  Even tho it's still decent riding weather...  My first kinda scared me.

Although, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...  I thought that because I have been avoiding it for more than a year, Murphy would up the ante and make it even worse, like a bone-crushing accident...  just to catch up with me.

I'm kinda relieved, but still scared.

I definitely understand being a little scared after the first fall.  I always push it to the limits in almost everything I do, and I found the cornering lean limit on my bike real quick.  I was kinda scared afterwards but I got right back on that horse.  Now I ride within the limits because I know where they are.  Turns out falling isn't soo bad but definitely not something I am willing to do again for the sake of learning how far I can lean in a corner.

Maybe it's learning that it *can* come from anywhere? That if there's something that we don't see on the street, that it *can* happen any time (eg. back end going out)?  :dunno_white:
