Title: Hi new 06 GS500f owner
Post by: morbidph8 on December 31, 2006, 06:26:20 AM
Hi I bought my gs about 2 weeks ago. I bought a old 81 gs550 about a month before that. The previous owner said all it needed was tires and a head light, but it turned out to be more trouble than that. It ran ok but it was to heavy and tall for me. I only paid $850 for it, I just wish I new more about bikes before I purchased a used one. So that one will be up for sale soon to go towards my payments on my gs500. I didnt really plan on buying a bike when I went to the dealership. I just wanted to see a gs500 in person. Well I was eyeing a used 06, when I stated talking to the salesman. They ran my info and bam, I got the bike deliverd to my house with no money out of pocket whats so ever. :) Well I love my gs. Its still looks brand new, with only 2k miles on it. Seeing how I still need to take my BRC. I have only road it once. I feel alot more confident and safe on the 500 then I did on the 550. I found this site while searching for some frame sliders for the bike. Im glad I did, this site is great. When I get paid im ordering the R & G Frame sliders and bar sliders. Also seeing how I laid down that old gs550. I figure im bound to do it to the 500. Is it possible to remove the fairings? What about the headlight fairing? Im worried about wrecking the body work. Thats why im getting the frame sliders. So if anybody can help with the fairing or would like to buy a old gs550 hit me up. Thx for such a great site. Ill upload pics of my bikes if any body wants to see them, but im sure you've all seen a stock 500 before lol. :)

Welcome to the site!

Do a search for "F to E conversion" with the author as "AlphaFire X5" and you'll find everything you need to know about removing the fairings and making the bike naked until you're ready to ride with fairings.

Grats on the bike.  I got an 06 Demo as my first bike a couple of months ago.  My baby is blue.  What color is yours?

Also, she is so pretty with her evening gown on.  Dont strip her off and make her look like a whore ie...I like the fairing, hehe.

Don't worry about it too much.  Mine is an 05 (black, red, silver) dropped it 3 times!  No noticeable damage.  All due to the same thing...grabbing the front brake in a slow turn...just train yourself not to do that.  Rear brake only in a slow turn, even in your driveway.  Also don't do the dumb thing I did and that is not mounting the bike to get if off the center stand, that's the only way you have control over it...do that properly and you'll never drop it off the center stand.

You might want to post that 550 in the WTS section. Those lil four bangers are pretty popular.

How much did you guys pay for those used 06 gs500's? I'm just wondering how much I might be able to sell mine for.
