My mirrors used to vibrate on the interstate...no problem. But now they move against the wind (even at 40mph). I'm thinking of putting a spot of JB Weld on each one to hold it in place because replacement mirrors are expensive!
Anyone got a good idea to replace the mirrors without buyig new OEM parts? I have to mention that I use a Barender helmet lock, so anthing that attaches to the end of the hand grips is out of the question.

Dont use JB or you'll never get them off, and you never know what might happen...you may need to replace a broken one sometime...
Try plumbers tape or loctite (purple one) on threads to keep it from turning in wind or while riding.
An alternate mirror is to swap stock ones for stock sv650 mirrors-better looking and they're a direct swap. Check out Anne's bike-wall fo fame, got to be one of the first bikes, yellow, shes got them on. You can buy these used for $30 or so.
If you look in JCWhitney's catalogue, or realted companies, they have aftermarket mirrors that are pretty cheap.

Most EMGO aftermarket mirrors will work (but don't get the kind for Yamaha). I got a replacement set through Dennis Kirk. The mirrors may still vibrate though. It's the bike that makes them vibrate.
tear the rear view mirrors off a ford festiva...direct bolt on. Get the power-switches too... good for long trips. :P
Seriously though... im thinking about bar ends or SV mirrors.. seem to be the only options... let us know how the SV mirrors are if you decide on them. They look nice!
I got the cheap mirrors from JCWhittney and they fit but vibrate much more than stock. They are light plastic and I got ones on long stalks so I could see behind me better so I expected more vibration. I was hoping I could swap the stock mirrors onto the longer stalks but their differant size threads.
I'm getting bar end wights but with my short stiff drag bars I don't expect much improvement.
Heavily made bar-end mirrors might be the best bet. Mine are serviceable but I'm thinking of adding some weight to the mirrors to help dampen the vibration.
I can't use bar-end mirrors because of the helmet lock I have. It's on the end of my left grip.
The mirrors I have move at the joint between the stalk and the mirror itself, not at the connection to my handlebars. I thought JB Weld would be a cheap fix and I could replace the whole unit as I could afford it.
Any good ideas about where to shop for used parts? The two sites I've used for parts so far only sell used. Would you look at eBay or are there used part sites? My local area isn't great for anything besides new bikes and overpriced mom-and-pops shops (unless you're into the cruiser scene).
I'll check my usual sites for rplacement parts and google for used part sites. I hadn't thought of SV mirrors!
I found NEW sv mirrors for $38.26. The scematic for the sv shows the same part number for both right and left mirrors. Is this right?

I took the mirrors off of my bike when I put new bars on. I didn't like the look of the stockers on the new bars. I bought some bar end mirrors that I can't see myself getting rid of, so I could probably part with mine for pretty cheap.

I'd try the plumber's tape first as pantablo suggested. If not, what about Napolean mirrors?
I bought the Sean something??? mirrors from AZ motorsports and they look a lot better and were cheap. But they vibrate pretty bad. I don't really care I usually head check twice plus my stock vibrated about the same.

Since those are intended for Buells, it makes me wonder whether or not the threads would match those on the GS.
I thought about that too after I posted but it looks like the threads are pretty standard across the imports with only the Yamahas being differant. If I could find a Buell to check I would.
I think the mirrors have the Buell name imprinted on the backs of them. It'd be kinda weird to see a suzuki with buell written on the mirrors. Maybe I'm just picky though.

I think I'll try fixing what I have first. 20 bucks is 20 bucks!
I appreciate the suggestions though. I now have a shopping for when money isn't so tight!
