Title: loose throttle grip
Post by: nightrider on January 03, 2007, 07:22:26 PM
Noticed lately my throttle grip has about 1 cm of freeplay before it actually accelerates the engine. So basically a lot of movement prior to engagement. Usually its not a problem but it does feel odd when I let off throttle to take a corner and it starts moving around on me.

Both cable adjusters were loose a few weeks ago, they are now (I thought) tightened properly. Any other ideas? Should I:

1) focus on cable adjusting at handlebars
2) remove tank and tighten cables at carbs
3) wedge master cylinder mount to the throttle grip like it used to be.

Thanks

thanks for all the help... the feedback and support has been overwhelming. The locknut adjusters were tightened down all the way... i.e. the cables were as loose as they could be. Easy fix... loosen locknut = tighten cable. Genius.  :icon_razz:

before you tighten down the cables for good start the engine and turn the bars through their full range of motion.  If the cable is too tight the engine will race when the bars are turned.

Thanks for the warning... I wish I had read it before I turned at a light and was revved at 30 mph into a gaggle of 3rd-graders trying to cross the street. Thankfully I got away with minor damage to my fairing and front fender.

Wow... I shouldn't laugh, but that's funny as hell...

Glad there were no serious issues!
