Title: St. Louis Riders?
Post by: Heffe on January 05, 2007, 02:29:01 PM
Any riders in/around the St. Louis area?

Name's Jeff, ride a '93 GS500, and I'm finally a member of this awesome site.  Seriously everything I'd need to know is here.
Just got my bike last summer and it's my first bike, and god I'm lovin it.
Proud to be a part of this huge GS community.

I'm about 60 miles east of STL.

Not too many GS riders out in these parts.

I'm also in the St. Louis area. I just got my GS500 this month.

Let's set something up. My next couple of weekends are booked but what about April 14th or after?

Any favorite routes you like to ride in the STL area? I know there's some great letter roads around, Hwy T is a good one, etc.

So how about it?

Sounds interesting.  I'm up for sometime in mid April.

Routes?  No idea around STL, most of my routes are to the far south.

I'm in StL here too (Arnold specifically - a little bit further down 55 from South County at 141) ... if you're talking the next couple weeks let me know , i'd be up for a ride  :thumb:

As far as roads , there's a LOT of great twisties (cheesy term , but no better word for it lol) out here between me and Pevely ... there's also the Covered Bridge park , which is a pretty cool place to stop , and the roads to it are awesome .

If this sounds ok , PM me with your number , or just reply here and i'll PM you

How about the weekend of the 17th?

Anybody near STL have route suggestions?  I'm in IL so I don't have anything to offer in that regard.  Maybe a ride around 100-150 miles?  Stop for lunch or dinner along the way?

Sounds good to me. Can we do it next Saturday the 14th?

Looks like 3 of us ... hows the 14th for you GeeP ? Atkins is in Maryland Heights , GeeP's in Illinois ... what about maybe taking the back way up through St Charles , then the ferry over to Grafton ? There's a few hours worth of back-roads around me here in Arnold ... it really depends on if you guys prefer more highway of more turns . Thoughts ?

I'm not going to be picky about it. I'll be happy to go anywhere. Just say when and where to meet up.

Since we'll all be on GS's , lets do the twisties  :icon_mrgreen: Maybe it'd be easier to meet you guys like at South county mall or somewhere .... GeeP , where are you coming from ?
Title: Re: St. Louis Riders?
Post by: GeeP on April 03, 2007, 08:16:26 PM
I'll be coming from central IL.  If I were to meet you in Arnold I would take 255 over.

I hope to be able to make it, but don't count me in 100%.  Over the weekend I had to cut a hole in my tank to remove a bad Kreem job that caved in last week.  I hope to have it patched/sealed/painted this coming weekend, but you know what happens to best laid plans.  I've already had to cancel a track day so I hope I don't have to cancel this too.

Definately prefer the twisties, but a ferry ride is always fun.  I'll let you local guys figure that out.   :)

I'm trying to find an extended forecast ... if it's chilly , then the backroads definately would be the way to go , if it's hot (gotta love the weather here lol) then the more open ride to Grafton would be cool too . I'm just trying to make it easiest going home for everyone ... I personally can leave my house and be on my fave backroads within 5 minutes , but it's a lot more riding for you guys just getting here . Atkins gave me his number ... i'll ring ya up tomorrow day and see what you think . I know you said you don't care , but neither do I hehe . Being in Illinois , you DO have a helmet  , right GeeP ? As far as the metting up , if we do go north , I could meet GeeP at SoCo Mall and then we could keep goiing up 255 to get in Atkin's area
Barring rain , are we looking at an all-day ride ?

I can be reached on AIM in the evenings.  Otherwise, PM me and I'll send you my telephone number.  All-day is fine by me.

Helmet?  Not a problem.

Ughhh ... just saw the forecast and it's gonna be a high of 45 with a "rain mixture" (snow??? it was 80 degrees a few days ago lol) . Let's play it by ear and see what the next weekend will be like , cool ?

45?  You must be watching Dave Murray...

Cindy sez 53 with a chance for showers:

Maybe we should aim for Sunday instead, 58 and mostly sunny.  Makes no difference to me.   ;)

Yeah , it was Dave lol . If that's correct for sunday , that's fine by me ... i'll just make sure to wear my liner  :thumb:

I just left you a voicemail heheh ... maybe next saturday or something . I'll keep in touch ... i'll have to show GeeP some pretty good roads tomorrow to get him to ride the 80miles to get to St Louis again hehe .I know some pretty good ones though , so he'll probably come back  :icon_twisted: He can stop off at one of the "Gentlemen's Clubs"on the East side on his way home to break up the monotony lol

Sorry I didn't make it this weekend.  I was painting the bike until 5:00AM Saturday, when I got up Sunday morning I was toast.

Looks like it is warming up again.   :thumb:

Yesss ... I know it's a little short notice , but what do you guys think about this saturday coming up ? If my Sonics come in , we're gonna do my forks one night this week , as well as the $6 Kat rear shock from eBay  :icon_twisted: I have a buddy from Gateway to the West HD that's a big import freak that's gonna help me for free , so if he says saturday to do the work , i'll have to take him up on it , but if not ...

GeeP ? Atkins ?

No bike to paint, so I might actually sleep the night before this time.

I'm in.

Same time, same place?

Ayup , sounds good to me . Atkins ? 10am Saturday by the Buffulo Wild Wings (something like that) at the south edge of South County Mall's lot ?
Title: Re: St. Louis Riders?

I can probably go, but I could only make it around 10:30 at the earliest.

Even 11 is fine with me if that's easier on you ... I know that'd give GeeP another hour to sleep hehe  :icon_twisted:

11 works.

I've had an update on my schedule for Saturday. So now 10 would work for me, but I'm fine to keep it at 11 if you both want. I will have to get back home by around 4:30 or 5, but I don't think that should be a problem. Looking forward to it!  :)

11-4 sounds good to me ... a little early in the season (not that we've had anything like "regular" riding season hehe) for an extended ride

I'm nursing a busted left hand that was getting better until I had to grab the handrail on my steps real tight earlier . I was testing the cat for umm ... "compressive strength"  :o
- she was laying on the steps in the dark ... she officially can take about 205lbs pressure and not make a noise at all . As a matter of fact she only moved one step up and looked at me like I was an a-hole lol

I have to do an estimate in South City at 9:30 , so by the time I get back home and then back up to South County Mall it should be right at 11 . If i was wrong direction-wise , the chicken-wings building stands by itself on the outer edge of the parking lot across from the main Sears entrance ... it's the furthest spot on the parking lot away from Lindbergh . I'll PM ya both my cell # just in case

So , when and where next time  :thumb:

(give me a bit to work my way back up hehe  - not to be perverse , but my arse hurts lol ... i ended up riding another hour and a half after going to the M/C shop)

That was fun. It did wear me out though. I need to build up my tolerances for "long" rides. Not sure though when I'll be open again for a day like that. I need to check on some things. I've been trying to keep weekends available to help my dad build his house. I'll check back in when I know more.

You aren't kidding ... i'm still sore today (just my lower back & legs ... the monkey-butt went away yesterday lol) . I got the idea that GeeP coulda kept on riding all night though hehe ... maybe i'll head over to Illinois weekend after next and see what the ride's like over there GeeP  :thumb:

I started to call the both of ya's today ... was a freaking awesome day , but I haven't spent a lot of weekend time with the wife and kids , so I ended up just getting to ridea  little while following them shooping and stuff  :icon_rolleyes:
Weather permitting , what's next weekend look like to either one of you guys ? I'd kinda l;ike to ride the roads around here again actually ... i thought of a TON of other good roads we could have taken

-Eric

PS - if ya wanna ride some tomorrow GeeP , i can probably get away with a couple hours if you're up for it

Man, I'm so jealous of you guys.  I was born and raised in St. Louis and never even THOUGHT to get a bike.  Now that I'm in the market to get a bike (next season) I live in daggone Chicagoland!  Not a bad place or anything but I'd feel a lot more comfortable riding around someplace I know (like St. Louis).  Just thought I'd let y'all know how lucky you are to have fellow GS riders.  Anyway, have fun and ride safe guys.

I've seen some posts about Chicago rides dude , you should be able to find a few people to ride with up there ... you'll just be the only one there that knows how much better it is down here  :icon_twisted:

BTW Geep , Atkins ... you guys ready to go again in the next couple weeks ?

If you're serious about tomorrow I can fit in a couple hours ... I have a bunch of parts for my GS i've been wanting to put on , but I can wait a while if ya wanna ride some . If you happened to want to help , i'd pay ya for your expertise too  :thumb: Still have my number ?

Yeah, I can probably steal away part of the day.  I may give you a call in the morning if I can shuffle some stuff.  Say 9am or so?

Sounds good . I have my new fork brace "kinda" installed (was afraid to take the front tire off by myself lol ... the new brace covers my old bent up one 'cause I couldn't get the backing nuts loose from the fender) . I still have my new fork springs to install , but my buddy is supposed to help me with those sunday (he has my new seals anyway) , as well as my Clubman bars , Buell headlights , and new brake pads . If you could help me with the front tire removal/fork brace install & if we could change the front pads while we were working up there anyway , that'd be cool  :icon_twisted:
I'm up for just riding though if you're on a limited amount of time ... like my wife says , I'm easy  :thumb:

I'll talk to you in the morning dude
