Title: Ok srinath... questions...
Post by: Rashad on July 13, 2003, 03:25:26 PM
Ok, bike has been running fine.. but that was because today was the first day i gave it full throttle.. ive been giving her a slow rev.. and not cranking it.

Well, after you said what happens with two open slide holes, i got curious, and i did what you said to do... I have stock front springs still.. and the bike about bottomed out when i floored it. It fell on its fat little face. It only does this at maybe 3/4 to full throttle. Now, this is kinda what it did before with my carbs, just way more extreme. So im wondering if maybe my carbs arent at fault, just the slides. before it wouldnt rev at full throttle, but if i held it at half, it would slowly keep going... too slowly, but still going.

So how should i plug the holes.... and what size mains do YOU reccomend with the V&H pipe. I have the two washers on the needles, and stock pilots because they stripped.

Thanks bud. :thumb:

Get the jetting right before plugging any holes - you may not need to.

My 2001 with a free flowing slip-on and K&N pod filters needs 150 mains.  If you have a stock or aftermarket filter in the airbox this will be too big.

I doubt very much that you would need anything larger than a 150 unless you have done extensive modifications to valves and head.

Well, right now i have 127.5 mains, and they dont feel right... i think i need to go bigger, i would just like to hear from someone who has a V&H pipe... and that is jetted properly. That way i can get a better base to start from anyhow. I am thinking around 130 or so.... also, i may get a k&n in stock airbox... it just makes sense.

I have a V&H with UNI filter in the airbox, and 127.5 mains feel right.

Yeah i believe it was your suggestion that i use them... you or someone else, cant remember. But i was curious as to what everyone else was using as well. It seems that pod filters alone require a bigger jet (like 140) than mine with a full exhaust... seems odd. I think it should be around 130+.

V&H and UNI 125-127.5 is right. If you have a jet kit in it...well they say what you should use. Check for all the hoses being intact in the air box. That hose on the bottom sometimes has a big rip in it. Totally throws off the jetting. I had to toss the hose and get a rubber cap put on it cos that hose rips easy. 40 pilots for low end and 1/2 mm to 1mm shim under needle. The hole blocking on the bottom of the slide also may be needed...In fact the only bike I didn't block them seems to have some problems because of it...Yea werase I have a badly carbureted bike...130 may be too much for yours Rashad. Check float level and air screw setting.
Cool.
