Ehh... it's decent. I mean, not raggin ya pablo, since all your shots ARE in a headsized area, that's pretty decent (better than I've seen some cops manage.. not even joking!)... But your consistency just isn't there.. Looks like you could have some talent once you practice some though.. Next time, might I suggest shooting something in a .45 or .45ACP? Once you do, you'll never go back to 9mm..

Fun, ain't it?

I've been customizing a Rem 870 into a tactical shotgun, just installed an 18" barrel last night, I can't wait to shoot it.

50ft. Longest distance this range had.

FIRST time shooting, ever. was aiming for head and chest only (lightest colored, center portion).

I totally agree...  But, I've met a few people that hate 45s...   :dunno_white:

I'll try a .45 next time...for sure.

Post by: RVertigo on January 08, 2007, 01:14:42 PM
They're nice and smooth...  Not jerky like a 9mm.

Some people think they're too slow...  But, I can fire a 45 more accurately at faster speeds than I can fire a 9mm.  I always end up missing one or two with the 9.   :dunno_white:

Just like Glocks...  Some people live for 'em...  I can hardly hit the paper with 'em. :dunno_white:

Post by: pantablo on January 08, 2007, 01:44:38 PM
I heard Glocks are sloppy. the baretta we had was uber sloppy. the SA-xd technical 5" barrel 9mm was really accurate. I didnt feel any jerkiness though-but have no point of reference. As I shoot more different guns I'll be better able to tell.

what do they charge at the range
Title: Re: dont piss me off...
Post by: pantablo on January 08, 2007, 02:26:54 PM
the total was about $30/person and that included a gun rental each, 50 rounds of ammo each, targets, earplugs, etc...its all a la carte though. There were 6 of us so we would try each others guns...
Title: Re: dont piss me off...
Post by: NiceGuysFinishLast on January 08, 2007, 02:33:25 PM
Glocks are sloppy in the sense of target shooting. For self defense/carry they are amazing. Because 99% of self defense will be done inside of 15 feet, and at 15 feet, I can put all 16 or 17 rounds through about a 3" circle, and keep all my double taps within a 6-8" circle, which is about the size of a face.

I like springfields, never fired the xd, I'm waiting on the commander (I think that's the right name) which is their 1911 in .45ACP.

Honestly though, why were you firing a 5" barrel pistol at 50 ft? Your groupings aren't bad for that distance (pretty decent, actually, I figured you were shooting at something more realistic like 15-20ft). Pistols are for self defense, until you move into competition grade pistols (les baer, kimber, etc). Self defense doesn't happen at 50 ft. Next time, try a .45 at about 15-20 ft.. you'll be amazed at what you can do. Unless your range sucks like the last one I went to, and DOESN'T CLEAN THEIR RENTAL WEAPONS AT ALL!!! WTF?

:2guns: I try to go shooting at least two or three times a month.  A friend of mine who lives about 5 min. away has a 100 yd. range on his property.  Comes in handy cause I've got enough guns to outfit a small army.
Last month I picked up a few more.  I got a Russian SKS and put a composite folding stock on it and 30 rd. magazine. Not known for being a naildriver but it's a good SHTF rifle.

Also picked up a Saiga .308, hard to beat for the price.

Here's my wife at the range shooting our .500 Magnum, the gun is almost as long as her arm!

+1.

try to get the cluster about half that size.  When I was still shooting, I was able to shoot a cluster of 10 shots in a 4in cluster.

but only when I was concentrating...  when I wanted to fool around, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

A lot of the firearms you guys are talking about are illegal down here, but it's still possible to have a enough firearms to arm a small army.  O0

Good shooting pablo.  I also suggest the .45 ACP.  After a couple scares on night calls (I am a locksmith who provides 24 hour service :o) I got my conceal and carry.  I use a 1991A1 Colt Officer .45acp.  Its really easy to handle, compact but heavy.  The weight in a pistol helps absorb the recoil, which is part of the problem with any polymer framed pistol.  I recently bartered lock work with the gun shop for a Remington 742 .30-06 that I am having a blast expending mil surplus ammo through at an alarming pace.  Now looking for a shotgun to try skeet, it a disease I promise.

How come so few use revolvers anymore?

Those monster sights are much easier to acquire in a draw and shoot encounter.

Dang  :o I didn't Know there were So many Firearm Freaks on here. :) I'd rather Shoot than to Sleep. ;) Course all I have are Some .22's and a .410 but get to Shoot my Dads and Uncles Arsenal. My Favorite is my .22 Ruger Mk1 Target pistol.I actually got Enough Practice in that I could Drill a bulls Eye at a little over 50Yds.I've lost practice though and would be Lucky to even hit the Target. I use my Ruger for just about Everything Rat Hunting,Carrying with me while House Setting, ETC.I even have a place for it over my Bedroom Door with 2 Full Clips ready for Crank Addicts.Depending on Which Clip I pick up they are Going to have 10 rounds of CCI Hollow points in them or 10 Rounds of Rat Shot.If they're still around and Alive After the First Clip they're gong to Have Both in them.

My wife feels the same way, she loves her wheel guns.  Her daily carry piece is a .38  but her favorite in our collection is our Colt Peacemaker.  For a carry piece, I prefer semi-auto.  I usually carry a Colt 1911 Mk IV Series 70 in .45 or at work due to the need for a more conceilable piece I carry a KelTec P32.

Here are a few pics of some of our collection.  :2guns: :2guns:

the cbr comes standard with a plastic cover. helps save weight I guess-sucks with a tank bag but great for the track as its so much easier to swap out.

Got the bike back together last week but discovered a hole in my coolant resevoir bottle, possibly from before the crash (which would explain it running hot that morning). Made the mistake of ordering the bottle online instead of at dealer (saved a few dollars but had to wait over a week for it). Finally got that installed yesterday. Took it for a test run around the neighborhood...to discover my battery died. At least I hope its my battery-has all the tell-tale signs of dead battery, and its the original from may, 04. Had to push the bike home over a mile...still sore from that one. Bought a multi-meter to test battery. I'll test it tomorrow and if its dead I'll replace it tomorrow. Hopefully that will do it. Still missing the frame slider replacements but that wont stop me from riding.

I'd love to own an M1 carbine.  They're awesome little guns.

I'm not huge into target shooting, though.  No patience.  I do go trap shooting almost every week, though.  It's a ton of fun, shooting at moving targets.  It's also great practice for hunting.  I get the impression that most bird hunters out there can't shoot for crap.  I can knock down pretty much any bird I shoot at.

I honestly don't know the exact rules for setting up a range.  I do know that the range at my friends house has a 6 foot stack of railroad ties buried in a few truckloads full of dirt and 5 acres of his woods behind it, you would have to do something pretty amazing to have a bullet miss the backstop!

:thumb: You just listed my three addictions!  Guns (have too many to count), motorcycles (currently have three) and Corvettes ( I have two)!  What generation of Corvette do you own?
I always have had a huge lust for all things Corvette.  I graduated school in 1990 when the C4 (especially the ZR1) was my dream car.  I bought my first vette in 1993, it is a yellow 1986.  Two years ago I found a 40K mile red 1986 for sale by the owners widow and bought it for an incredible price.

My next one is probably going to be a C5 Z06 or a base model C6.

it was really smooth and accurate. didnt feel like it kicked much either but I have no point of reference except the 44mag and baretta.  The 44 was damn accurate, the baretta was piss poor and sloppy.

If I were to own a gun the XD would be high on the list.

My Bernardelli Gardone VT italia cal. 7.65 brev.    ( a .32 cal semi auto pistol) this is a very solid gun and easy to conceal , Its totally a gun that a spy or somthing would carry around. it is very important to me because it was my grandfathers gun, he died a few years before I was born and he carried this gun on him everywhere he went. so this one is very sentemental to me .

I have a ton of rifles and other nifty guns but I think I will keep those to myself for now lol

Well my thirst for shooting and weaponary (a thirst every man should have  :icon_mrgreen:) is pretty much curbed over here in the UK. Very difficult to own a gun (so many licenses and regulations) and the only place you can really use them is on a large farm or shooting ground. However i don't own many. Just the easy ones. I have  BSA .22 air rifle and a .175 old Daisy target pistol.

I do quite alot of target shooting with the pistol on some targets we made up on the farm. However the must fun you can have would be using the .22. We collect beer cans and stand em on hay bails half way down a field then shoot'em off from the top. Not sure of the distance but its a pretty far (you wouldn't have a hope in hell on a day with much wind) its good fun though. I also go rat shooting and rabbit hunting on the farm for 'pest control' purposes  :2guns: For that we use the rifles and some god for saken old shotgun locked in the workshop

I am registered with a local gun club and although i can't own a shotgun (easily, im 17) many friends lend me one while down there we shoot skeet and clays and occasionally pheasants when the hooray henry's havn't had them all.

I was down today and had the pleasure of shooting the most awesome shotgun or weapon ive ever fired. The guy had it sent directly from america (he knows someone who works in the company)

Browning Cynergy - Classic Trap version.

It was absolutly beautiful. It turned real easy and fired beautifuly with very little recoil. Im guessing this is down to the rubber pad. It was also very quick to fire apparently due to a mechanical trigger but it meant you could get a second shot in which with some guns you couldn't. It was an pleasure to shoot it and if i was ever to purchase a shotgun i would definatly look into one (if i had alot of money!!!)

re guns:

I could totally get into guns if I gave in to my warlike side. My family was nonviolent but I was a very warlike kid, for being an 80-pound bookworm. Being a city dweller now Id only get a gun if I thought I really needed it, but maybe the enjoyment factor is another good reason.

Ive never actually fired a weapon unless you count a bb gun. My friend had a hand-pump Daisy. I was 12. There were two doves or white pigeons pecking in some gravel behind his house, I poked the barrel thru a chain link fence, took careful aim, and blasted one from about 20 feet away. There was a BIG puff of feathers and it flew off about 200 feet and perched on the wall of the building where we all went to church. It was spazzing out a little and kept fluffing its feathers. I was surprised it was still alive. From about 40 feet below it I shot it again... some more feathers came off... it fell over sideways, plop, that's it, and lay there on top of the wall. I felt really bad. I dont think I shot at any more birds after that.

another time camping w/ the other kids from church, I had my friend Cody's wrist rocket slingshot, and I think we were just walking around the woods with that and a bb rifle and possibly a bow. Yes, we were very violent christian boys. I saw a squirrel from about 25 feet and launched a rock out of the slingshot at chest height. PAP- it hit right in the ribcage. He was knocked back about a foot, paused, then scurried off. We were surprised he survived, the sound of the rock hitting him was loud enough for everyone to hear. Then later some other campers told us he was curled up somewhere. We found him under a log down the path. His eyes were closed, his little squirrel head was tucked into his paws and his fuzzy lil tail was wrapped around him. He was dead. I felt bad again. I can only imagine how much it sucked for the poor guy.

Well those are my two hunting stories. Although I have pwned many, many thousands of other humans on Counterstrike and Battlefield 2 using every variety of weapon known to man.

Susuki Jah, I like your .32 S & W revolver. For some reason I like the look of the break open revolvers. BTW who's the sucker that took the photo of you

This is my favourite pistol, after my .357 S & W revolver, it's a replica of a Remington rolling block pistol from the early 1870's.

hooray henry's? LOL.

Hehehe. Hooray henry's = english slang for posh (and rich) country folk who own large manor houses and estates. The sort of posh folk who have expensive shoots on their large manor estates where they shoot the pheasants they have reared through the year. Usually us measly peasants are hired to beat for them (the act of scaring the birds from the pheasant cover, ie wood) so they fly into the air and get shot. But sometimes we get to shoot all the ones they can't hit with there 300inch quad barrel polished teak shotgun they inherited through 500 generations.

/rant over.

Some are ok. Alot are snobs.

Kasumi, do the pheasant taste better with the expensive shotguns?  Just wondering if I should get another one, but they taste pretty good from a mossberg pump.   LOL

Hehe they taste far better with less shot  :flipoff: But then you probably don't kill as many  :icon_twisted:

Its a hard choice hehehe.
By all means though buy a cynergy - they tasted good with that - or maybe i was distracted by its loveliness. Feel free to send me it for a few test shots.

I only run target loads in the pistol, so it's easy to handle. I guess with full power loads it would have a fair amount of kick.

I'm running 10 grains of BP in a .357 cartridge. The calibre isn't 100% authentic, but it makes it easier & cheaper for reloading as I have a few .357 firearms.

I like to shoot...my better half won't take me, though....I think he's afraid that I'm gonna miss the targets and hit him....  :icon_lol: (But shooting is the ONLY place I actually have good aim! :P )

I'm teaching my eldest boy, who'll be 6 in a few weeks, how to shoot. I took him for a shoot last week & out of about 30 shots he got 14 on the paper. Of those there was 8 scoring shots & 5 of those shots in the black, 7, 8, 9 & 10 rings. This was with a .22 rifle about 30 yards off a rest with iron sights.   :thumb:

Teachin' 'em young is awesome. Learning early to use 'em properly is a good thang. I wish I'd learned young. I think I would have really enjoyed shooting and would have competed if I'd started before I entered the teen years.  :thumb:

That is cool that your teaching your son proper shooting and gun safety at an early age.  My father
started shooting with me when I was around 5 also.  He bought me my first rifle when I was 8, a Marlin bolt
action .22.

The firearm laws are fairly strict in Australia. You have to have a firearms licence to have have a firearm & to have a licence you have to have a genuine reason eg target shooting, hunting/vermin control, collecting. To get a firearm you have to apply for a permit to get one & have genuine reason for having one, the same as having a licence. All firearms are to be stored in approved safe & are inspected that they comply.

Semi auto rifles are banned, but are allowed in certain exceptions, eg vermin control on farms. Pistols are not to be of a calibre greater than .38/9mm, except for black powder.

This is a very basic description of whats involved to have firearms/firearms licence in Australia.

We have a fair number of firearms ranges/gun clubs out here plus shooting properties, so theres plenty of places to shoot.

I've never hidden the fact that I shoot & have guns from my boys & have always taught them about safety from when they were old enough to learn. Even if my boys dont want to shoot when they get older, at least they'll have firearms awareness & an unprejeduced view on firearms.  :thumb:

Ummmm Pandy, thats anatomy, not your fault.    LOL

I actually find that many women are better shooters than men.  Women listen to instruction, and follow it.  Men "think" they know how to do it all, then develop bad shooting habits that are VERY hard to break.

My wife has been shooting pistols for a long time, but I took her out to the rifle range a few months ago.  Within 10 minutes she was putting fist sized patterns at 50 yds.  And can now do the same at 100 yds with an sks that I have set up for her.

Bah...I *could* have learned to aim if I'd been taught young (but I'll always need to sit :P ...took me a while to figure that one out!    )....

Like sense of direction...I have none...was never taught it...I can get lost even with the new GPS toy my better half gifted me with for xmas... One of my best friends was taught a sense of direction by her father. She lives in southern Cali. I've called her while on the road so that she can get me unlost..and she has...wherever I was lost, she'd get me unlost... Darnit, I was ripped growin' up!

Fixed!  :flipoff:

Actually, there are a LOT of things that would top my list, and being able to go just about anywhere (both going AND GOING) would rate right up there. I'd have loved to have learned to shoot young, to have a sense of direction, and to have learned how to be handy with tools (keep it clean :P). All this "guy" stuff could really come in handy now....  :thumb:
