Title: Not to beat a dead horse, but...R6 Tail
Post by: yellowfatebird on January 12, 2007, 08:12:57 AM
Can anyone tell me what year R6 tail is most compatible with our bikes? i have searched extensively on the subject and never find a definative answer, mostly a lot of dead links. I'm looking to do something along the lines of what is outlined on Pantablo's site, but I don't have the guts to do it without some specifics and the blessing of the sages on this site. I realize that I am a couple of years late on the subject but would greatly appreciate any help, otherwise i might just zawzall everything from the start of the passenger seat back, and see what happens, cafe style.

All years of R6 tails are equally fugly on a GS IMHO.
Its a tie.
They are super wide ... I almost thing a f4 tail 99-00 F4 is better cos while its still wide, its atleast rounded instead of being so angular.
Cool.

this shall be taken into thoughtful consideration, but nearly anything would be more appealing than what i consider the most unattractive part of my otherwise wonderful bike.

once upon a time I saw a GS with a CBR600RR tail on it. It looked to be the same GS subframe as well.... didn't look too wide, but sort of looked half GS, half space ship...

Did you just replace the lens and brake light housing with the r6 one? Or does the r6 lens fit on to the gs housing? -Thx

Does anyone have any expirience with Airtech's mono seat piece?,  i've heard some horror stories about the customer service but nothing on the product.

I actually went as far as purchasing an R1 tail 91 I belive b/c I heard they were pretty similar.  As for the two front mounting holes they fit perfectly with the two tank bolts but that is as far as it goes.  If you mount the tail with those two bolts then the rear half of the bike looks smaller and disporportional to the rest of the bike.  When you scoot the tail back it looks ok however the tail and seat will be significantly lower then the stock.  And when you raise it to actually look decent, the subframe sticks out below by at least 3 inches.  AND after all that you have to figure out a way to mount the fairing and then a new seat.  There is now easy simple mod to get it to work. Your best bet to get it to look the best would be to cut off the subfram and actually weld on one from the bike that you got the fairing from. (atleast this is what I have read )

PS I have the tail just sitting here so if you want it, it is your just cover shipping.....pm me
