Title: Tires...
Post by: JeepWrangler8 on July 14, 2003, 08:45:31 AM
I currently have 140-rear, 110-front on my GS.  I am looking to get a wider tire on it.  I don't do a lot of racing.. What would be the best tire to go with for the GS??  I am looking for a wider tire that will fit with no modifications necessary.  I also don't want any problems with a wider tire being on that small of rim.. Let me know what I can do.   Thanks, Ryan

whats the reason for a wider tire? 140 is great on the GS performance-wise.

I like the look of the wider tire... Are there any good ones out there that will fit the GS rim??

If you're looking for the widest tire possible on a 3.5" rim, the Dunlop D205 140/80 is the widest I've seen (I'm currently running it on the GS) it measures 153mm (wider than some 150's) and just barely fits (maybe 1-2mm left at the swingarm).... :thumb:

DO NOT PUT ON A 150.  As it wears, it'll get all wierd and squared off making your turning abilities a chore not to mention disquieting.  Don't ask how I know this...

150/70 and 150/60 will fit but they're not approved for 3.5" rim. They pinch and you can't get to the edges of the tire. You'll also feel the bike "fall into" turns once it gets leaned over enough to get to the edges.

I'd just get over it-park your bike next to any other bike and the 150 will STILL look dinky. Stick to 140 for the best handling for GS. I have 150/60 Michelin and I went to wider tires only to get access to really good sport rubber.

Thanks for the advice... I will stick to the 140's then...
