Title: Windshield / fairing
Post by: neptune on July 14, 2003, 09:13:26 AM
Are there any decent-looking windshields or 1/4 fairings for '96 GS500 for around US $100-$150 (or $200 CDN)?

I've checked around a little bit and find that most are US $300+.

I got a EMGO cafe/viper fairing, for $40 US on e-bay... it took a bit of dremel work to make it fit, because it is "universal"... but I was expecting that and I didn't mind.
I'll get a pic up soon in the gallery, but I'm still tinkering...
Sometimes you can find Ducati Monster fairings on e-bay or used.

The National Cycle F-16 series windscreens are pretty good looking and less than $90 US from various sources. If you wanted to have a faring look from them they could be easily painted since you only look through them if laying on the tank and straining your neck horribly.

there is an oem GS500 fairing on e-bay right now... it's yellow, but you could repaint it if you don't need yellow.

Thanks,

I currently hold the bid on it. Still not enough for the seller though. I e-mailed him. He wants at least $150. It's not looking so good anymore.

Sorry Anti, I looked up peeteecruiser and it didn't exist on here.  Is that you?

I will go the $150 if that takes it.

Anti, sorry but you don't exist as peeteecruiser or pt or?? in the member list.  Should I be looking somewhere else?

Check, let me know if I'm blind.  I really don't see it.

Cr@p, my bad.  I didn't remember about the "Ebay users list".  It's in the 'For Sale/Trade' listings.

Sorry about that.  I'm glad you opened my eye balls to that.  I was looking through the members list.

I just got a 1/4 fairing from Givi model A755, it looks pretty good.  I posted a pic on the board a couple days ago.  Have gotten nothing but compliments, a couple of my friends actually thought I got a new bike!!

How much does it cost? Is there a manufacturer website I can check out?

www.givi.it (manufacturers website, no prices)
http://store.yahoo.com/azmotorsports/unwin.html  (Arizona motorsports, they have it for 130us plus shipping 13$)

It does come in other colours than listed on the site but it's sold out, I ended up paying 200CAN$ at a GIVI dealer in Toronto for it in blue but I got it the next day.  the Matt black would have been 160CAN but no idea when they would have got it in stock.

I just put the National Cycle F-16 on my '02. Haven't ridden it enough to tell if it will provide much protection but here's what it looks like against my crappy old garage door. I ordered it from J.C. Whitney. Cost $65 plus shipping. FWIW

st-185gt:
Where in Toronto did you order that from? I'd like to call them up and get some details on a black one.

Delta88:
I assume the $65 you quoted is US$? Still not too bad converted I suppose, as long as shipping isn't a rip-off. Anyway, is there a site I can check out for National Cycle?
Also, very interested to know how well it does on a highway (110km/h or so).

I got it through zedeno cycle salvage

http://www.zdenocycletoronto.com/

although both Mcbride and Cycleworld said they could get it.  I know cycleworld could get the black one but not the matt black as it was not in stock when I was looking.  Check now and you might be able to get it.  It's pretty good as a functional shield as I've been able to tuck behind it at over 160 and can feel a noticable difference (that's KM for all u US folk) although the mounts need to be modified to get them to fit flush to the light, otherwise the shield floats about a 1/4"  also the brake reservoir is in the way so I twisted back my handlebar to get a little more clearance... it rubs a tiny bit on the highway.  The finish is perfect, my bike fell of the kickstand last monday (yes I cried but I'm a newbie and didnt realize it wasnt going to stay up....) but there is only a slight scratch in the top clear coat.  GIVI is quality!!! there was a quality assurance note in the bag of nuts and bolts so someone made sure everything was in there.

any question drop me a line or if you wanna cruise over and check it out in person let me know.  Perhaps we could meet up for a ride sometime? I'm in richmond hill

Sounds good neptune, it's supposed to be nice on wed, also I'm trying to setup a mini ride to Wasaga or maybe Forks of Credit view on sat.  I'm still an M1 till Aug 5th so anywhere we go will have to be on slow roads... I'll post a separate topic on the other forum for any others around here.

Credit Forks is amazing - was down there couple weekends ago. If you're heading over on a weekend, let me know dude! I'll get my buddy and we'll ride around....

Try a search for "Powerbronze" they do a range at reasonable prices, one point to think about, recently on a UK GS500 site, Bikers Vine, someone blamed a flyscreen for melting his clocks after it was left standing in the sun. Takes some believing but that's what he said.

Hey dude... sorry I won't be able to do any riding this weekend - sister's wedding. There's talk about a ride sometime next week though (somewhere downtown)? I might be able to do that...

LOL thats pretty funny... that would have to be a pretty crappy 'shield' though... not sure if you'd want to ride with it even...
