Title: Random wall slug question
Post by: MrDan on January 24, 2007, 09:01:22 AM
Ok .. so where do I found out what the color on the end of a power adapter tip means.  I have a Rio Karma that I'm trying to power in my car.  iGo (great adapters) doesn't make a tip for the Karma so I need to find the closest tip tha would work.  Any thoughts?

Sorry so disjointed - late for a meeting but didn't want to forget to post :)

The power adapter itself should have a label or (more likely) text imprinted on it. The text should say like 120v to 9vAC or something similar. It will tell you exactly what it outputs, then match that to the correct iGo tip.

Do the tips regulate the voltage at all?  I thought that was all done by the actual adapter.

I think I just need to find a tip that fits in the mp3 and make sure the iGo adapter (not the tip) will not mess me up.  Does that make sense?

For some reason I thought this post was about a drill.

Now I see it is about an mp3 player.

Whoops.

Nay, tips are just like plumbing. It is what is inside the wire - the voltage - that matters.
That is not saying that a company may make a line of products that automatically make things right.

Just make sure you match voltage requirements with the source.
If not.... :o

So you think the tip will actually regulate exactly what voltage is pushing through?  I figured they just served to hook up the adapter to the device.  I have a link to one of the tips below.  I was hoping I could just find the one with a yellow band that fit in my Karma.  Guess that's a not  :icon_mrgreen:

So find a tip that fits my Karma and I'm golden ... I can do that - thanks
