are you talking about the rear sets?

The part where you place your foot while riding? thats broke/bent??

Find out about the front wheel and shoot An a message.  He has a front wheel for 50 bucks, which is an awesome deal....

I'll be in Irvine on Sunday, and if there is anything I bring you, lemme know.  I know you're in Huntington, but Irvine is closer than Palmdale.

Dude that sucks, but it happens when you're learning. Sorry the guy took off..i've been there too...Glad you're ok though. Do you need the whole left rearset? or just the peg. Any chance for pictures of the damage? I might have a peg laying around, I'll look. As for a clutch lever, they're less than $10 from a stealer, they should have them in a few days or you can order them online but then you have to paying shipping too. Order two..always good to  have one on hand.

And..look at the bright side, you got your first wreck outta the way on ur gs. Mine occurred the first time I rode mine...I target fixated on rose bush   :o

...on a random side note..can I have your shifter? I need a messed up one for a project. PM me if you'd be willing.

so went to look further into the damage    the two font forks are bent in a little but noticable ( i hit head on)   im in hawthorne but hintington is where my girl lives so its not that far from my house. the part where my left foot goes when i ride is broken and the bracket is bent so its the front left. as far as the clutch lever goes its not bent its broke but if you want it its your. and if anyone knows where i can get a front end for cheap lemme know. hey Tragic lemme know what you got lying around and if you can bring the 15t front sprocket.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

All the church parking lots that I know of, I would not use for practice, especially those with two entrances.  Churches and business districts are where the riff-raff hang out during the weekends.  Practice away from traffic areas, such as the one where the car could come around the corner and suprise you.  Now you know.  It's part of learning.

Glad you're allright.

Are the fork tubes bent, or are the triple clamps out of alignment?

Hopefully, the mount for the footpeg is not bent (or just bent a little, but still acceptable), and just the mounting bracket is all that needs replacement.

I know I'm being a party-pooper, but..............

Maybe you should lay off the "harder" practice until you've done the MSF...   :dunno_white:  The responsible thing would be to not ride, but I know there's no way to talk someone out of riding.  :icon_confused:

Forks aren't gonna be cheap, unless you're REALLY lucky. Cheapest I've seen on ebay is $100, cheapest I've seen here is about $100... I lucked out and got a set of '89s for $45, and all they needed was new seals. Footpeg will be cheap, the whole assembly probably won't be. Clutch levers are also cheap.

Also not to be a party pooper.... but if you did this at the MSF, it would be their bike to fix, not yours...

Glad you're unharmed though.

How well did the fairings survive?

Joel.

In all seriousness, I think you're trying to progress too quickly.  A 15t would just make it harder for you to get proficient at the basic skills right now.  My offer stands, and it will always stand that I will give you my 15t for free, but I just seriously think that it would be detrimental to you learning.

I come off as a big @$$hole on this website, and I know it.  But if there is one thing that I really do care about its other rider's safety.

Please Please PLEASE, take a class.  Slow down and take time to learn the basics, you have your whole life ahead of you to enjoy riding a motorcycle.

+1 on the 15t... it'll be a cool mod, someday... especially if you end up hitting the track... but for now, leave it stock

Also, since you're planning on going naked, if you sell your fairings on ebay, chances are good you can make enough to pay for your repairs, and a new headlight, and still have a little bit left over for mods/gear/whatever.

The only thing you'll need for going naked is a headlight assembly from any '89-'02 bike, shouldn't be too hard to find, there's probably people on here with em, if you post in the WTB/WTS forum. Good luck!

I also looked at your myspace, the pics don't look too bad, except the forks. How fast were you going? They're almost as bent as mine are, and I hit a car at 30mph. Mind if I add you as a friend on ms?

i wasnt plannign on putting on the 15t yet not till i get better im in no hurry but if your going to be close its the easyist way. and as far as comming off as an @$$hole i dont see it. i may have pushed myself to fast but i hit at about 25 i think i havnt pushe dthe bike past that i dont even think ive benn in secong gear yet. i read alot of exercises for begginers to try and thast what i was doing but i cant control what other drivers do. the main thing i was trying to practice was taking off smoothly and doing a u turn slow and fast  and also braking

I toke the MSF and it was helpful but not an absolute nesissary.
So how would he have reacted differently if he toke the MSF then went out practicing??? huh? car came around a corner and surprised him.
I practiced in parking lots when I first got mine, the only thing that will help is expearance, and he just got some.

I think you should wait off on the 15T too. 1) right now you don't need it. 2) when your ready for the extra power you'll actually notice it.

EDIT*
you guys keep posting!! while im typing grrrrr

I think Alpha has a headlamp assy for sale? well he did. shoot him a pm.
Title: Re: dumped the bike yesterday
Post by: NiceGuysFinishLast on January 30, 2007, 06:38:02 PM
I'm 99% sure that Alpha has sold his already. But 505 is parting out 2 different parts/stunt bikes. He might still have a stock headlight.

Yeah, 25 looks about right, based on how the forks are bent.

I was saying that if he'd been at the MSF practicing and he dumped a bike, he wouldn't have had to worry about fixing it.

As for TI being an @$$hole on the forum.. take my word for it.. he is..

but no more than I am. I'm a pretty big @$$hole.

Good luck with the repairs.

as far as the forks go what do i actually need is it just the bent part or the whole leg?
Title: Re: dumped the bike yesterday
Post by: TragicImage on January 30, 2007, 06:42:09 PM
whole leg.

both of them.
if ones bent, more than likely so is the other, even if you can't see it by eye sight.

I suppose theoretically, you could just replace the upper tubes... but you'll probably only find them in sets. I believe there's a set on ebay right now.. also, trwhouse has a pair for sale for $75, they're straight, but have a knick which means you have to replace fork seals ($11) every year. You could try PMing him. Or was it scottPAGs? I don't remember.. one of those two...

I'll search ebay for ya and post what I find

Clutch Lever (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-GS-500-GS500-500E-Bandit-600-CLUTCH-LEVER-ip_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ016QQitemZ260081518034QQrdZ1)

Mirrors (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-GS-400-450-500-550-650-750-850-1000-MIRRORS-sz_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ016QQitemZ260081629841QQrdZ1)

(I only post the mirrors because if you go naked, you'll have to add the bar mounted mirrors instead of the fairing mounted mirrors)

Different Style Mirrors (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-GS-400-450-500-550-650-750-850-1000-MIRRORS-1_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ016QQitemZ260081672697QQrdZ1)

Forks (http://cgi.ebay.com/SUZUKI-GS500E-FRONT-FORKS-NO-RESERVE-GS-500-E-LOOK_W0QQitemZ250079441580QQihZ015QQcategoryZ10460QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

look out though, those forks are in the UK, so shipping could be expensive, make sure to email the seller.. you'd probably be better off looking for a pair here in the US unless you get a crazy deal on those

Headlight for going naked (http://cgi.ebay.com/Suzuki-GS-500-E-1995-headlight-c-w-bulbs_W0QQitemZ140078768527QQihZ004QQcategoryZ10534QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

But I believe you still need to get the brackets that hook to the forks.. probably get them from a dealer or online for fairly cheap)

Fork Oil Seals (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUZUKI-GS-500-E-550-750-850-1000-FORK-OIL-SEAL-SEALS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35592QQihZ014QQitemZ330082556443QQrdZ1)

I mention those because if you buy used forks, you'll want to replace the seals, since you don't know how old they are

Cheaper clutch lever (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CLUTCH-LEVER-gs500-gs550-rg250-gs-550-500-250_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35587QQihZ008QQitemZ180080495494QQrdZ1)

Didn't see any of the peg assemblies.. again, PM 505 for that, since he's got 2 parts bikes, and the parts haven't changed over the years.

Title: Re: dumped the bike yesterday

its for the rider's foot....

The part that are for the rider are called "Rear Sets" and the passenger's foot rest is called the "Pillion Peg" or "Passenger Peg"

Sorry to hear about your get-off, mach1, and I'm glad you got off lightly. The MSF course will help you to learn to deal with emergency situations like this one (people who run from accidents deserve a special place in prison with Bubba). You'll run into situations like this probably on a daily basis, and you'll start reacting to them more automatically.

Theads such as this one with all the helpful advice and offers of help show all the things I really like about GSTwin.  :thumb:

Hey Mach1,

I will check out shipping by tomorrow.
Here is more infor from a previous post I did about the forks:

I do have a set of forks that I could sell you. They are straight and uncrashed, but one of the tubes has a nick (caused by careless fork seal extraction the first time I did it --- UGH!) that causes the seal to leak every year.
I have wet-sanded the nick and cleaned it up as best as possible, but I got tired of having to replace the seal every year.
Eventually, I found a set of forks with good inner tubes and kept the old set of forks as spares.
They don't have springs because I kept the Progressive fork springs and put them into my new fork legs.
You can buy a set of Progressives and pop them in or reuse your original OEM springs, but I'd highly recommend you go withe the Progressives. They work really well, though some people like the straight rate springs from other companies.
If you want these forks, I'd sell them for $75 plus shipping.
Like I say, they are not perfect but they are usable and will be fine as long as you are OK with replacing the fork seal each year.
All parts are included except for the springs and spring spacers.
I resorted to leaving the leaking seal alone each year and just draining and refilling the fork legs annually. That solved the problem a lot easier than replacing the seal evefry year, while keeping the fork fluid at the correct level.
If you can live with that, these would work fine.

Yours,
Todd
