I'vs followed the direcitons in the Clymer manual... Line up the R.T mark with the left side piece on the signal generator etc. Line up the arrow next to the one pararallel with the front of the head, count 18 pins back from the 2 arrow, 3 arrow lines up with 18th pin. All should line up now. Well the notches don't seem to line up quite right unless the "T" or the"." in the R.T is lined up with the signal generator. before putting in the exhaust side I pull the slack out of the chain, line up the 1 mark count back pins, keep chain taut and then line up the 3 mark with the 18th pin. After al is aligned I put in the tensioner then tighten down the bearing caps.
I don't know whats up please help. No matter how hard I try I just can't get the timing right.
I have the same problem. With 17 pins the notches on the camshafts face each other exactly, with 18, they don't.
I did it about 5 times today and couldn't get them to line up.
They have to be set 18 pin apart. Otherwise you will probably end up bending a valve. Do not concern yourself with the notches, they are not used for setting the timing only relative position to each other.
Deja vu.
