hello everybody, i have an stock 04 gs500f with the excemption of the SM2 bar. Now, my question is that i have absulutely no expereince with doing mods and so forth, should i still try to do the DIY mods offered here and wiki? or maybe it's best in my interest just to let a professional do all the modications for me
If you changed the bars yourself, I'd say you should have no problem easing into some DIY mods. Even if you didn't you could probably do most DIY stuff, just take your time.
Remember if you are taking something complicated apart, take digital pics along the way so you know how things go back together. Good luck :thumb:

+1 YOU CAN DO IT! If you get hung up on something, search on here, or post your problem, and there are MANY users on this board that will point you in the right direction.
What kind of mods are you planning?
I'd say at your stage to avoid the carbs, since those can be confusing even with a manual. There are a lot of other mods available though that can add a lot to the performance or appearance of your bike, and many which are definitely doable with a little free time and a shop manual. Maybe you could start with something easy, like replacing your turn signals, and then move on from there as you get more comfortable with the bike.
Hell, I say go at it. I wrecked my bike a few months back. In that time, I've replaced the forks (which I'm about to rebuild with new seals, as soon as the seals get here), rebuilt the carbs, and replaced the stock handlebars with '89 clipons. Granted, I've been working on cars/engines since I was like.. 10.. but still, I'd rate all of those as fairly easy, if you just take your time, follow the manual, and label EVERYTHING with masking tape. :laugh:
