I'm sure a lot of y'all have seen these cheaply priced trunks on jcwhitney.com http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2010969/p-2010969/N-111+10211+600014603/c-10111

Well, I ordered one and installed it last night after being tired of having no storage space other then the TINY underseat spot. First off the build quality is better then what I'd expect for the price. It by no means competes with Givi. The latch is the weakest part since its made out of plastic but I'm sure it will get the job done. The mounting hardware and lack of directions (universal) make for an interesting install. Had I cared more and had more time I could of fabricated something, instead I took my old grab bar and drilled a couple holes and gave the mounting bracket some reenforcement. I'm thinking about selling my gs soon so I just wanted to get it on there for the Deals Gap trip on the 16th. I'll post some pics of the set up later.

is it water tight ?
I use some ugly soft saddle bags (kinda water tight) for longer trips. they suck, scuff the paint, and generally sag like dog balls, but get the job done.
personally, I don't like the weight of whatever i'm transporting to be so high.
on a side note, here's the scale of suck assness:
(+ is more suckage, - is less)
+5 softbags
+10 bunji cords and a bedsheet
+2 hardbags (some asshat will destroy them while trying to steal them anyway)
+1 hardtrunk (higher weight than bags)
-10 some hot chick wearing your backpack and a g string.
hope my wife has a sense of humor when she reads this
