Title: crankcase part numbers
Post by: gswingnut on February 12, 2007, 07:34:24 AM
I was looking on BikeBandit at the part numbers for the crankcase. From 89-96 they all have the same number, from 97- they have a new one. Any idea what changes were made. I thought that the engine were unchanged from 89-present with the exception of the electronics and oil cooler. Can I do a rebuild of a pre 96 engine with a post 97 case? Insight is appreciated.

Color.

89-96 are black and 97-current are silver.

The models with the oil cooler are different. They have a oil passage that connects to the oil pan and pumps oil into the cooler.
I picked up a set of 05 cases and oil pan to use and study. The parts microfish just shows the older style parts even when you look up newer models. :cookoo: :2guns:

I forgot about that. Could the ports be plugged and use the cases without an oil cooler?

I don't see why you couldn't do that :dunno_white:

I'm gonna see if I can modify an older motor to use a oil cooler. :icon_mrgreen:

If you do not mind, post or send me some pics of the additional 04+ oil passages. I am planning on doing the 4-valve head on my GR motor this year.

As soon as I get the oil pan I'll send some pics :thumb:
