Title: Dyno jet installed, a little lag though, need a little help
Post by: makaveli2502 on February 16, 2007, 01:08:24 PM
i just installed a dynojet kit on my bike, along with a k&n air filter in stock air box. it idles great revs up nicely, but when i'm riding between 5000 and 6000 rpm it hesitates and i lose a lot of power, can anyone help me on what this may be caused from and what i could do?

thanks

Did you shim the needles?

what does shim the needles mean?

First, lets back track.  If your bike was made prior to year 2001, then it's recommended that you shim your needles.  If that is the case, do a search for "needle shimming" or "rejet" and find a thread with pictures and details.  It's quick and easy to do, and it will richen your midrange.  It's been covered extensively on this site.

How did you rejet your bike?  Pilot?  Mid?  Mains?

I belive the Dynojet kit comes in stages?   stage 1 , 2 ,3?  Which one did you do?

2005 gs500f with a k&n filter put in stock air box and a stage 1 jet kit (dynojet) with 3 turns out on fuel plug screw 2 washers under e-clip. e-clip is 3 notches from bottom on the dynojet needle they provided, replaced the main jet and pilot jet as  instructions said, still not sure what i did wrong, but engine chokes between 5000 and 6000 rpms. anyone?  :dunno_white:

Mine has the same issue and same setup ( even same year).. I was thinking it was the needed clip needed to move.. but since the airbox was coming out this winter i didnt bother..  I was thinking one more notch on the needle should do it..   my $0.02 - taxes.. for what its worth

Did you replace the mid main ? Does that even come in th dj kit? I've got a 2001 with a lunch box and wilyeco pipe. I'm running 22.5 pilots, 65 mids, and 150 mains. 3 washers I think, maybe 2. About 3 turns on the mixture screws.
Now I don't know how those number cross with the dj stuff cause they use a totally different system. My bike jams!
You have a stock pipe? I've been told over and over that dj is crap for the gs, so I went with what guys here suggested and its spot on.
Your mixture screws aren't the problem, once you crack open the throttle, you bypass them. It won't be your pilots, its either mids, mains or needle. The dj needle has a different shape than the stock length so you won't get the same results with the same number of washers as me cause I've got stock needles.
Throttle position and not rpm dictate which throttle circuit is being used......1/4, 1/2,3/4, etc.
Try this link and see if it helps. Good luck!

ok.. so i took out/lost the washers when i took out the needle and put that stock white donut instead of the washers, around 3000 rpm it just chokes really bad, but when i have it in neutral it revs up fine. what could it be?

Are you mixing a stock needle with the dj needle?

no its the DJ needle they gave me. i need to know what washers and how many washers under the eclip i need. is there any specific size washers i need? do i need the white donut that was on he stock needle? i only replaced the pilot jet and the jet under (not physically under, as in beneath the tall jet) there are 3 jet lookin things i replaced the pilot and the other one is a smaller jet (under the tall main jet)

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k19/suzukigsf05/jetkit.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

thats the pic of what dynojet has..

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k19/suzukigsf05/instr.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

            those are the instructions

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k19/suzukigsf05/jetkit-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

and thats all the jet kit came with.. expect only 2 needles, 2 springs, 2 eclips.. so is it missing anything? where do yall think the problem is? can anyone explain what i need to do?

            those are the instructions

Follow the instructions.  You need all the stock washers on the jet needle--including the donut--and set the e-clip 4 from the top.

Main jet--don't mess with the beneath main jet.  Change the tall main jet with the DJ124.  You're telling us you changed the wrong jet.  :icon_confused:

Toss the dj stuff and go to the wiki site, look in the jet matrix for your bike, go to your local shop, spend 25 bucks on the correct jets and bam! Its fixed!

wow the instructions they printed out and sent me from dynojet says that the jet beneath the main jet is the main jet, thats what its pointing to anyway (the jet under the tall jet)

When I get to a point where I don't know whats wrong with something that should be working, I tear it apart, and put it back together one step at a time.  My guess is that you don't have the jets installed properly, or you don't have a good vaccume seal on your diaphragm.

If your top speed is around 65-75mph in sixth gear, and you don't have any power past 6k or 7k RPM, you have a bad seal on your diaphragm, and you need to re-seat your diaphragm cover assy.  A good way to check is to stick your finger in the carb and lift the valve piston with the cover assy in place.  Let it fall and listen for the sound it makes.  You should hear the vaccume, and it should slowly fall.  If you just hear a whooosh! and it free falls, you know that you don't have a proper vaccume.

What do mean you can't get it fixed? You have two solutions offered to you, jarretts' and mine.
Before you alter the gs any it would be best if you post up your intentions. Most aftermarket companies make little or do have any thing for the gs, since its not as popular as say a zx-6. But that by no means speaks to the bikes ability. I own 3 bikes and have owned over 15. The gs is a fine ride and quite powerful and fun for its hp.
Do what you need to and fix your mistakes.
Go to your dearler and see if they have the parts you lost... Post it up on here, some member may have it laying around, call dj and see if they can send you a extra.
Don't ever take no for a answer and think for yourself! Goodluck!

#4 washers.  You can get them basically anywhere washers are sold.  Home Depot.

Figure B in your Dynojet diagram has an arrow pointing to the main jet.  I presume this is where the DJ124 is supposed to go.  Is that where it went? :dunno_white:  You spent $85, you owe it to yourself to do the installation right according to the company that employs actual research and development and not DIY pet theories.  I suggest you try the dealer first for the missing carb parts....how much could a few washers cost?  Just a suggestion.

ya in figure b the arrow is pointing to the tall jet (main jet) but in the paper instructions they gave me the arrow was pointing to the one under that, miss print i guess. so how many total washers do i need under each needle?

all the washers look different. are yall sure they are all #4 washers? so 2 #4 washers under the eclip and 1 #4 washer above the eclip?

alright.. so i think i got it.. the top of the main jet screws out, and thats where i put the jet DJ supplied me? i used DJ 128 cause i got an after market exhaust and a K&N air filter. that right?

It would still be a good idea to order your stock washers & spacers from the dealer.  They'll have a parts breakdown so you can see exactly what's missing (besides the power).

i had no idea the top of the main head screwed out and had changed the jet beside the main jet or under whatever you call it.
