Title: Traded up - Gs500 -> '04 CB600 F4 or is it '04 Honda 599
Post by: dracflamloc on February 17, 2007, 08:55:39 PM
I'll get some pics tomorrow =)

I just upgraded to a yellow 2004 Honda cb600f4 with 1600 miles on it. Just have a lot more power now. Also I find the bike to be more comfortable than my GS was... I think it has to do with the handlebars. I can sit in more upright position and put less strain on these carpal-tunnel wrists of mine.

I can't wait to get out and ride it a ton. I certainly hope I made a good choice. Seems like it so far =)

Does anyone know of any good forums for these bikes?

Another question. I guess technically the model is the Honda 599. Does CB600F4 = Honda 599?

isn't the F4 a supersport?  If so, doesn't it have a more AGGRESSIVE seating position?

Unless I'm thinking of the RR...  wasn't there another CBR600Fsomethingorother?

The 2004 Honda 599 (Hornet in Europe) has a detuned F3 engine, not an F4, but still a very nice motor by all accounts (most reviewers praised the excellent carburetors). The only real problems were the price (higher than an SV, but not an issue here) and the vibration (since the engine is a stressed member and a revvy I4). Otherwise, its PURE naked fun. Let us know how it works out!

04 CB600F4 is the Honda 599 aka Hornet in Europe:

This is a CBR600F4, that little R makes a big difference:

I too would be more comfortable on the 599 than the CBR600F4 or F4i.

Wow, I've read the exact opposite from nearly every magazine that ever reviewed the bike.  The carburation was said to be very lean and have lots of dead spots from idle-6,000 RPM.  They said that just off idle the bike was jerky and sputtered a lot.

The F3 engine was made from 1995 to 1998. It's an engine that hasn't been made in nearly a decade.

I'd rather have the new 599. (can't find the pictures though...)

I've been watching the 599 for a while.

The latest version has USD front forks, as the most striking change. The local dealer can't keep them in stock and has resorted to custom painting the 999 to move 'em.

I guess there are a few people in the world with common sense left.

Here's the last one so far, 06 model, no 07 model in US:

I just took it for a good ride. I was gonna get it dyno-ed today at the dealer but there was a huge line and I'd rather be riding than have some HP number to brag about =)

Its really great. Very smooth through the throttle. It takes a pretty smooth handle on the throttle to keep it from being a little over-anxious off the line, but once I got used to it it wasn't an issue.

I forgot my camera and I'm house-sitting at the moment but I'll be taking pics soon. I bought a motion and metal-sensitive lock/alarm for the brake now that my bike isn't just a 2000 dollar bike anymore and I'm getting a lock put on my fence in my back yard where I keep it.

I would actually consider one except that I don't like carburetors, and Honda seems to think that their naked, carbureted 600 is worth up to $1400 more than anyone else's comparable fuel-injected bike.
