i rode my bike to work for the first time yesterday. my parking garage has two short steep (15-20 degree) ramps going in, and two going out, with gates at the end of the ramps. there are coils under the ramps that detect a vehicle and then it checks a transponder you carry around and then opens the gate. i had checked in advance with the parking garage attendents on how to get in and out, and they told me to go down the inside edge of the outside lane and i'd have to problems. getting in was ok, though the attendent needed to help me a bit. going out, however, was not so smooth. i roll down the ramp and the gate doesn't open for me, so i stop and she comes over and asks for my transponder, which is in my right pocket. after figuring out how to take it out without letting go of the brakes i give it to her, she waves it around, tha gate doesn't open, and she tells me to back up the ramp and go into the other lane. uuuuuuuuh....right. fortunately my boss just left the garage and stopped and came back and helped me push my bike back up the ramp into the other lane where i snuck out on someone's bumper. it also didn't help that about half my company left while i was stuck on the ramp. :oops:[/b]
Its not your fault that engineers and architechs don't design things to be "motorcycle compliant".

You are too kind. I usually ride through the walking opening. Screw the pedestrians. I've parked in Boston Garages many times only to sneak out through a pedestrian exit :mrgreen:
Our building has a special motorcycle area in visitor parking on the ground floor. You can get in and out of it without going through the gates. Normal contract access reauires you go up a ramp and swipe a card. It's nice not to deal with cards, gates and ramps when I ride the bike in.
I have seen this problem before..
It seems many of these things are also similar to the traffic light loops.. first it has to detect your bike and then it will allow you to go in..
So basically you will need to put 2 magnets under your bike (relateively powerful ones - kerry did it recently).
I had this problem at a commerical mall .. it wouldnt let me get a ticket.. and i was holding up teh line so the attendent came in and swiped a card and let me thru.
The next tiem I had teh magnet under the bike and i hit the button and it let me thru no probs.

Did you attach them with glue or anything, or just let them stick on their own?
Since the frame is steel, they just stick on their own. They're not very hard to pull off though, so glue (or Velcro?) may not be a bad idea. I still want to experiment with 1 magnet and see if it will trip the lights around here all by itself.

mine is on the center stand cross bar.. but I still stuck it with double sided sticky tape and to make sure it stays.. i put locking wire tie on it.
Gotta get the magnets.........in my garage, the bike won't trip the detector, so I have to put the stand down , walk through the man-gate, put in my card, sprint under the rising gate like a ferret, then get on the bike, stand up, get it in gear and back under the gate before it starts down and decapitates me.
Of course, it saw me go in, so it is already shortening it's cycle to "lock up" again.
Great training for 'duck the frying pan' after making an unwarranted wisecrack at home. ;)
Any chance you can squeeze by on the right side of the barrier/stick thing?
My office building requires you to stick a card in a reader before the barrier will move.
But there is small gap b/t the wall and the gate that I squeeze through.
