Title: 1992 GS500 Racebike PARTING OUT!!
Post by: ducatiboy on February 22, 2007, 06:44:36 AM
Hi all, sorry for my first post to be a for sale post but this site was highly reccomended.

This is a 1992 GS500. It was raced last year at NHIS in the LRRS.   I just traded another bike for it.

It has 2004 front forks w/ Race-Tech springs and woodcraft clipons
Recently swapped the rear back to stock so it needs a new chain because this one its too long now.

What the PO told me...

"race" sprockets (I can count teeth if you want)
New battery
Jetted carbs with k+n air filter/breather
D+D Full exhaust
SV rear shock
Race cams (I can get the grind info)
Hi Comp poistons (not sure of the displacement)
Lots of spare parts (Pistons, jugs, cams, cases, carbs)

This is a race bike, it cannot be streeted. I don't have a title.
Email me with questions. doc.lemire at us.army.mil and or ducatiboy at hotmail.com

I will consider parting it out IF (and only IF) I can part the whole thing out.

I am asking $1400
These pics are with the ZX7 front and Bandit rear

Or parts of this?

lol I think they were waiting for those magic words.

are you parting everthing out?

everything is in great condition; including my old mint '04 front end. plus a whole box of extra engine parts, carbs, etc.

sv650 rear shock, new woodcraft clipons.... there's more. too bad I'm broke  :icon_confused:

sans that front end you lost a lot of interest.  The built oversized suspensions are usually the biggest selling points behind the race bikes that I turn into street-fighters.

Good point Mac  (Same guy from NESR?)

I sold the front to Buddah for $700.

The big problem (for me) is not knowing what these parts go for.  I am hoping to get at least $1200 out of the parts to break even on this "deal".   Damn Hardcore!
Title: Re: 1992 GS500 Racebike
Post by: ducatiboy on March 06, 2007, 04:01:52 PM
Hey 13uddha.... What were the rates on those fork springs again?  And how much do you think the forks are worth?
Title: Re: 1992 GS500 Racebike
Post by: makenzie71 on March 06, 2007, 04:08:50 PM
$700 was a good deal for Buddah on the front end...not so much for you but not bad.  Just lower end of the range.

To me, your best bet would be to part the bike out.

Carbs...I'd say $75

D+D Full exhaust ...at least $150 bt I would ask closer to $250

SV rear shock ...$75

The motor should sell alone for $700

Forks $100

Tank $50

Seat $25

Tires $75

Front wheel $35

Front rotor $15 (I'd buy it right now)

Sprocket and chain set $25

Wiring harness $25

If that's a Bandit 400 rear wheel $75

Clip-ons $50

That's $1475 off the bat

yeah... but id pay 16 for the front rotor.  :flipoff:
Title: Re: 1992 GS500 Racebike

the built forks were probably worth about $400
front wheel $250~300
rotors $75~150
Calipers/lines/master $75~150
Tripples/bearings/misc ~$50~100

well it's hard to know what to do with stuff when you first start breaking it all apart and don't have experience doing such.  When it comes to this variety of race bike, you have two money-making options: street-fighter or part it out.
Title: Re: 1992 GS500 Racebike

Hey 13uddha.... What were the rates on those fork springs again?  And how much do you think the forks are worth?

springs were race tech .85s w/ 15w fork oil. Forks are in mint condition. I'd say more that $200 because the springs & fork oil alone costed $100. If you'll let them go for $200, someone is getting and awesome deal.

I paid $140 for the Woodcraft CFM split-clipons & they're BRAND NEW.
$100 is a steal for whomever is interested.

$250 for forks/racetechs.. I gotta pass, way too rich for me. I can get forks for $40 and sonics for $79

Thanks though.
Title: Re: 1992 GS500 Racebike
Post by: coll0412 on March 06, 2007, 08:45:37 PM
makenzie71 thinks parts are made of gold or something.

TO be honest with you $250 for a patched together exhaust is ridiculous(D&D has never made an exhuast for the GS), I can buy a new vance an hines for 269.00

I am not try to criticize ducatiboy or anything, since he is not really sure what it is worth. But a spray painted exhaust to me is worth about 100 plus shipping. As far as everything else they are fairly well priced. I tell you what,  $100+shipping for the exhaust, and if the chain and sprockets are any good I will take those for $25+ shipping.

I am honestly telling you what I would be willing to pay for the parts, do not take it as an offense

Hey guys, Thanks for the input.  I surely do not take any offense to it.  I appreciate your candor and Honesty.

I will check on that D&D.  I know it was spray painted so that it would look more "stock" to pass Tech.   Not sure if the headers were also aftermarket or not.

As for the forks...  GS Forks must be really cheap!  :o   Or maybe I should say Forks and triples?

See revised prices.

I think the headers were aftermarket.

stock ones are parallel to each other, so you can slide a cinderblock underneath to jack the front end.

I think I remember these ones being offset.

Yeah, they're '04 forks with .85 kg/cm racetech springs. However, it's still too much for me to spend, when I can get Sonic Springs (same thing, really) for about $79 new and I'm picking up a used set of forks for about $70 after shipping. I just can't justify buying these. But they're still not a bad deal, just not a gr eat deal.

Well 04 new oem are 500$/each at a dealer man..

Dibs on the Forks, you take PAYPAL ?

Question how much of a difference will those springs make for a daily rider (no track days) will I feel on the front handling ?

Email me patrick.bureau@gmail.com with where to make payment.

you will feel a huge improvement over the stock handling.

hell, my test ride on these springs was firing the bike up & riding it down the ramp of a u-haul truck onto an inclining street.

I thought I was gonna be screwed having been used to the stock suspension.

though when I actually did it, it was so smooth I was absolutly amazed.

worth looking into to see what's actually installed on the bike. I think the one shown was just a stock spare.

As far as I can tell that is a stock one in the pic.  I will ask what it has in the bike.

Ahh Damn!  I forgot.  I will do that tomorrow.  Working late tonight.

Really sorry fellas.  I am in the middle of parting out a Hawk and to make room I put the GS in the race trailer.  Thankfully spring has sprung and I can get into the trailer now and start pulling the GS apart.

If you wanted something or we have struck a deal please remind me and I will get to it ASAP.

You want all the Valves and the springs?

Intake Valves are like $20 each NEW and Exhaust Valves are like $30 each NEW!  WOW!

I might need a little more than $10.  :dunno_white:

Just the valves.

Are you saying the valves are new? I was thinking they were used.

I am going blindly on their condition and useability. Best I will do is $20.

HOLY CHIT! I didn't realize they were so much! My bad. I just checked ebay to see if your price was way off... hell no, they've got chitty used ones with bad paint etc going for $60+ and then shipping! I dunno if I can justify $25 on a fender right now, since it's cosmetic, and I could use the money for things like getting my tail straightened....

If you have it in a week or two, after the next paycheck, I'll probably take it. Thanks. Sorry for lowballing, didn't realize what they were worth.

FINALLY got all the orders out.  I hope everyone is happy.  I got WAY behind getting my racebike together in time for the first race weekend.

That is all done and I have some more time so if anyone wants to clear this stuff out...

What is left...
Racebike Frame, no title  I will let it go cheap, cheaper still if you come get it.  Disclaimer.. I have to take the motor out of it so this is not a "send it tomorrow" kinda thing/

Motor... See post above as to what I know about it

Front fender from a 2004

Carbs.. although I think these may be sold (who was asking for em?)

D&D Full system

Race Tach

swingarm

Rear brake master

Used chain...and assorted bits and pieces. Ask me and I will look.

What I DO NOT have
Rims
rotors
tires
front forks/triples/brakes

I need to make room in the garage, let me know what you want and how quickly you want it and I will see what I can do.

Thanks!
