My buddy Terry had one of those and it left us stranded on the side of the road many times.  Total POS.  My first car was a 92 Ford Tempo.  I remember filling that thing up with water in the parking lot of my high school, driving to the front of the school, stopping and filling it up with water again.  Total POS.  My second car was an 89 Nova.  That car was unstopable.  I drove it for about 15k miles without changing the oil.  I called it "step child", because I abused the hell out of it.

its a 92 sc(supercoupe) my car never left me stranded anywhere even with 186,000 on it, it still took me to Los angelas to riverside everyday no problems. as long as you keep it up to shape they last for a good amount of time but not forever. and yes it was very comfyand since the seats had a sport style where good for fish tailing and donuts with out flying out of your seat bolsters are awesome. did i mention it was fast

My dad had a 84 Tempo and that had to be the Toughest Vehicle made.Ithad over 600,000 Miles when he gave it to my Uncle. The only thing that ever went wrong with it was a busted Power Steering line.

One of my bddiess Had a 85or 86 Thunder Chicken that was an Ex State Trooper Car.It had the 302 Intercepter in it and was probably the Most Dangerous Vehicle (Other than my Cousins 69 Nova with Keith Black 350 Drag Engine 2 850 Hollies and Tunnel Ram) that I have ever ridden in.

a friend of mine had a tempo and beat the shaZam! out of it...rolled it several times, too.  As long as she landed on her wheels she kept going.  I don't think he ever changed the oil.  He was trying to sell it after having it for I think 5 years and someone was coming to look so I thought we should check the oil and stuff just in case...he didn't even know where the dipstick was.  There was actually dry powder on the stick.

I won't say we loved that car, but highschool wouldn't have been the same without it and my Supra.

having been a valet I learned to like + respect the T-bird. Has somewhat dumb good looks. Comfy and protected-feeling, powerful, fast, badass. With an aftermarket exhaust it really sounds wonderful. Probably the only Ford I really had any respect for whatsoever. The rest of them blow... sorry if you are a loyalist.

Hard to say that.  There's a nice foxbody running around amarillo that runs high 10's on pump gas and just a little bit of boost.  579rwhp...total cost, including new powertrain/drivetrain/wheels/paint/redone interior was $8,500.

thats what I figured but when you said it was a POS i thought you may have done some wierd highschool kid thing and actually filled it with water. fords are known for cracking heads in thier V6 vehicles. but thier v8s and 4cyls last a long freeken time.

I have a 1971 ford with the original 302 engine. the only thing that is not original on the engine is the hoses and the carb.  everything else including the altinator is original. you can take a drive here in Richmond and find lots of these old fords. Infact I bought this truck for 400$ on an old farm it sat for 4 years and all I did was put some new gas in it and a new battery and she fired up and I drove it home.  hows that for lasting?  and its got 133k on it.
now my brand new truck is a 2006 ranger. they offered the best price $12,700 for a brand new truck!  with a/c .  5 speed.  chevy wanted atleast 15,900 and they were lower to the ground than the fords.  plus they didnt have the 35mpg sticker that the fords had.  toyota is way over priced and underpowered for thier trucks and mazda is ford, same with dodge, actually I dont trust dodge transmissions.

anyways I used to be a die hard foriegn car buyer, but I got sick of dealing with thier little YANG YANG cars , the only foreign dealer I enjoy is volvo  and a few other exotic ones. which are all almost owned by American companies anyways :).

Nothing Wrong with the Dodges.Yes they have Transmission problems with the Automatics. The Reason for that is Neglect. My old 90 Dakota with the 3.9 and Automatic has Almost 280,000 miles on it and everything is Original all of the way down to the Starter and Alternator. :thumb: It is Starting to get a little Unreliable and I'm looking for a Newer Model with a V8 4W and a 5 Speed. :icon_mrgreen:

remember the vans and the bad batch of mitso transmissions they used?  Dodge has some of the best deisel trucks but in the 90's everything else they had usually had tranny problems. there were exceptions though :). my brother owns a dodge so I dont hate them too much ;)

Heck yeah, I got a 1992 Thunderbird Sport with a H.O. 5.0L when I was 15.  I modified it and played around with it until 3 years ago when I got my Audi.  The car was awesome and actually dipped into the mid 14's.

This was a semi-old picture.  I had added the SC ground effects and bumper before I got rid of it.

Did you ever post on the ttcoa?  My name was "Danimal" and I was a regular there for about 4-5 years.

I have a few questions really.

How old did you have to be to drive in your state Turd? (or anyone else who wishes to answer)

What car did you drive at that point (engine size) thats open to everyone also.

And finaly if you don't mind me asking how much insurance did you pay a year on that car.

Im only interested because hearing about you driving around in 5.0L's etc... and im just like what?!?!? completely dumb struck. Here in England insurance is so high that i wouldn't even be able to dream of being insured in anything like that.

For example... A fiat punto 1.4 (petrol) sporting (im 17, one years no claims against it) would be £2000! which equates to about $3927.40. And even that can't be putting out much over 100hp if that.

I think its because you all have screwed up things called round-a-bouts lol I have heard that there are a lot of wrecks in europe. but Im not sure on that you can help me out with those facts.

Right now I am 25 and I pay a little under $3400 a year for for 4 cars and a motorcycle to be insured.

71 ford f100 longbed (5.0/302)
76 volvo 244DL (2.3Fi)
88 volvo 244DL (2.3Fi)
2006 Ford Ranger (2.3Fi)
91 suzuki GS500E (499CC)

wow I just realized I own 3 cars with a 2.3L four crazy.

now before that I was paying DOUBLE a year. but then I switch over to USAA which saved me 50% which is still amazing to me this day! THANKS USAA :)

also in most states the leagal driving age is 15 that is to get your learners permit, you may drive with a license driver of the immidiate family only.
when you are 16 if you have taken drivers ed and the DMV test you may get your license after holding your learners for atleast  6 months I beleive it is. it can vary from state to state.

I started driving a 89 Nissan Sentra 1.6L I loved that car.

you are paying out the ass jah. If I was in your shoes I would bump down to 1 car, 1 bike, keep the cash, and save enough to do a crapload of other things, not the least of which would be to buy an awesome car. But that's just me. Is that extra 2.5 grand a year just burning a hole in your pocket, or is there not enough room in the bank? Wth do you do for a living anyway? That's like 1.5 months pay dude!  :o

Round abouts rule, much better than junctions. :)

I just find it amazing. Its just incredible trying to drive here in England, motorcycling was easy because ive done it since i was like 3 so that was a relativly cheap way to drive plus insurance is cheap on motorbikes here.

To compare:

Learning to ride motorcyle:

16 years old: Provisional license                     cost about £30-40
16 years old: CBT (compulsery basic training)  cost £85
16 years old: purchased Rieju RS1 50cc bike   cost £1300 (yes if you want anything other than a 50cc scooter you pay out of your ass)
16 years old: insruance on the Rieju £330 a year for Third part fire and theft.

17 years old: Already had my CBT (it lasts two years) so i could go streight for my test.
17 years old: 1 and a half days intensive training (not that i needed it because i rode for a year before) cost £300
17 years old: Purchased ZXR400 cost £1100, restriction kit cost £120 fitted
17 years old: Insurance on the ZXR £520 a year.

Passed my test the day after my birthday 22 June.

I will only total up the cost of the ZXR so i can compare it for you to how much it cost to drive (you can only drive at age 17 here)
So total cost onthe road for when im 17 on a bike would be: £2080 (if you included the CBT and license add 115)

Im learning to drive now (i can already drive but theres a whole load of stuff they want you to do on your test which you need to learn, so its taken me less than half the time as many many people my age to get to this stage)

Right... so i started learning on January the 8th of this month.

To date i have done 13 hours tuition at £20 an hour. So thats £260 so far in tuition.
I have passed the first part of my test (the theory test) that was about £30.
I have been told by my driving instructor to book my test within the next two weeks and there is about a 3 week waiting list.
My driving instructor asks you to do a 2hour lesson right before your test to get ready. So that will be £40
And to bridge the gap between now and the test (whether i need it or not il do it for practice, practice makes perfect) that will be say 4 weeks of lessons. I do 2 hours lessons a week so £160. The test costs around £130 i think. So just for learning to drive and passing my test the cost is £620 And thats just over 20 hours of tuition. The average is 30 to 40 hours at least.

Ok i havn't bought a car because as you can see its feciking expensive just to learn. But i have put together some figures.

Im moving to bournmouth next year to go to the collage of air traffic control. I live in the midlands so its a fair few hundred miles. I will need to come back up to my parents house here in the midlands to visit relatives so i need a car with a decent engine which can cope with all the motorway driving.

So, reasonable to good condition, low mileish 50k, 1.4 petrol 3dr or 5dr small hatch. The cost would be about £2000 and i would want to spend abit more than that probably.
To insure myself in that it would be about £1800 to 2000.

Cost of getting on the road in a car to me is: £4420

So the bike cost me: £2080 OTR and the car £4420. And that doesn't even factor into it MOT costs, repairs, petrol! Which for the bike would be far cheaper.

And guess what they want to do. Introduce road taxing now in the UK so you pay for how many miles you do and on which roads etc... Argh. Its so bloody expensive, like everything in England its extortionate.

I dont have the best driving record :( . I did a lot of stupid things in my younger years.

I own an awesome car .. my 76 volvo 244 is ready for its 350 v8 swap. ive been working slowly on building it. people can go buy a new car but its just the same car the next guy bought, not a v8 powered volvo with a blower :).

my 88 volvo is a handling machine, my 71 ford is a trash truck and just fun to drive around and my 2006 ranger is a very practical fuel efficent daily driver.

I save money and Im into stocks and mutual funds. I rent out a couple of storage spaces for my band and my workshop along with storing my things from my house. see I moved out of the house I was living in downtown when I joined the airforce. when I finally got off all the active orders I was taking I have been staying at my parents because I keep hopping on and off orders. I recently applied for a VA loan which I was approved for and have been searching for a house, but another piece of the puzzle has come into play. I will most likely ask my GF to marry me this summer and we have talked about this. so I kinda want to see how thats played out. My little brother is coming home from the MARINES for good this oct and we are going in on an investment beach home.

basically for what I was paying before , what Im paying now is cheep. you pay to play.   I beleive in owning more than one car because one may go down one day so I have the others. I get bored with driving one car everyday and I am addicted to old vehicles , I hate new cars.

Im not rich but im not poor either ;).   I dont just have one job. I do what I can to make money. 100% leagally though!
