Hi everybody!
Just got a 2006 GS500F three days ago and could not be happier with my choice.
Got a question for you guys.
My first fill up, engine started sputtering at 133 miles. Got to the station with 137.Fill it up with 3.4gl. Is there something wrong with my bike?
nope.
But 40mpg seems kind of low?
what were you expecting....what did the lying salesman tell you?
40-50 is not bad
WFO will get you 15-20 only
If I take it easy, I can expect 150+ before I hit reserve. If I ride aggressive or "regular", about 130 I start looking for a gas station. Congrats on the bike. Keep the rubber side down.

WFO=Aggressive riding.
Thanks guys.
I gues my riding style is kind of agressive.
So 130-140 before reserve should be OK?
Good to know 'cause I expected 150-170 miles.
40 MPG? I think that's pretty low. My 2005 goes at least 200 miles before reserve. 130-150 miles on a tank might be normal for the older GS's with smaller gas tanks.

Lower mileage during break in is also common.
Cool.
Srinath.
+1 on what Srinath said.
I have an '04. I get 52 MPG on my commute to work. 70-80 MPH
On back roads taking it easy I get 60+ MPG
My best ever was 62.97.
Going hard I might get as low as 45 MPG
My bike is factory stock. That Probably makes a difference.
BeSafe.
Stop-and-go driving and short trips is pretty much all I do on the GS. When it was stock I was getting around 45mpg.

you should expect 150-170 miles. because call this a fluke but if my 91gs500E can run up untill 190 when it starts to die (unfortunatly tested this) with a 15t sprocket V&H exhaust K&N filter and a led hand shouldnt other bikes beable to do this? expecially a new stock on.
I usually fill up at 160miles .
isnt that GS500 rated for a good amount more than 40mpg?
Your trip meter had to be off to get 190 with a 15t, K&N and jetting. I have a similar setup and get roughly 40-45mpg if I"m riding highway and non aggressively. Back and forth commuting and I get at best 110 out of a tank.. Unless you have some sort of magic bike.

nope the trip is right on. Ive put it up against the mile markers one of the first things I did when I got the bike.
I try to keep the RPMs down for the most part though even while doing 35mph im usually in 6th gear cruising. but on the highway im usually at 90-100mph steady.
everytime I fill up at 160. ive only ran out of gas from 180-190 range. because I wasnt paying attention.
thats why I said must be a fluke .. who knows. :cookoo:
or in km's.

lol no no its in mph . I am from the US remember lol. its a US bike as well
Are talking about the res tank also? Cause 190 with your setup on the main "tank" is unreal! I've got the same on my 01....wileyco,kandn, 15t and I get about 140 depending how I ride it....before my res. Used to get 150-170 before the rejet..
