Title: Alarm mounting location?
Post by: dav8or on February 25, 2007, 10:41:22 AM
I have just recently bought a 2006 GS500F and would like to install an alarm. Can anyone tell me where they have installed the alarm unit and what alarm they installed? I was thinking about the Chatterbox alarm but cannot find the dimensions of the unit anywhere online before I order it so I can determine where I might be able to mount it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Mine was located under the seat in a little space just before the rear lights

Just park next to a more expensive bike (any newer bike) or throw an old tarp over it, perps will think its ghetto.

Under the seat where the toolkit goes would be a good spot, except you need to find another place for the toolkit. Also, if you remove the stock airbox for a lunchbox filter that gives you a bunch of room, you cold then mount it to the front of your battery box.

It was some unrecognizable alarm which gave me trouble in the rain so I threw it
But it's was something like 3X4 inches and various bits attached

There's some space inside the seat fairings.  The regulator & some electronic thingies are on one side, I think.  I'd always imagined I'd put junk there if I wanted to add more electronic junk.

Thanks, I took a look under the seat and tail light area tonight and it looks like there would be anough room for a reasonable size alarm attached up high above the tail light to the plastic fairing.
