Title: I would like to make my bike a street fighter.
Post by: asf135 on March 01, 2007, 11:01:01 PM
I am thinking about taking a whole bunch of old street signs i have laying around the house and welding them up and making fairings out of them.  If i were to drop it that way it will act as sliders and if they scratch up the bike will just look more badass.  Only problem is i dont know anyone with a english wheel for bending sheet metal.  Nor do i know where to buy one.  Anyone have one or know of a place to get one.  In the Atlanta area preferably

I use a grinder to score the signs then you can fold them nd the material breaks.  Road signs are usually pretty brittle.

One of my favorite projects was something like this...it was a battery cover for an old yamaha.  Before installing it I shot it a few times with a .22 to give it character haha

Make sure they are old street signs because using current signs may be considered vandalism if the cops think you stole them from somewhere.

that's funny because I use a rather modern stop sign for the tail on my wind turbine haha it's 45 feet in the air and it glows in the dark.  No one says anything.

The street signs were all retrieved in a legit fashion.  I got them when they replaced the street signs in the hood.

A sand bag and a hammer works well for forming metal. It'll take some practice though, of course so will an english wheel. A leather bag full of birdshot wors even better.

Streetsigns are pretty thick though, you may be better off getting some thinner alluminum sheet.
